Newbies
Remember when you were young,
you went to a new school or moved to a
new neighborhood, and you didn't know
anybody? Invariably someone would say,
"Oh, it will be fine, you will meet lots of new friends." You got to
school, did not know a soul, could not find your locker, all the halls
looked the same, you arrived at your class late and everybody just
stared at you. Finally, it was lunch time, but you could not find the
cafeteria, let alone know where to sit. If you are lucky, you are an
outgoing person, and it is easy for you to meet new people. Some
of us need a little more time and help making new friends.
is is where Newbies comes in. Newbies is the official
welcoming group for Ocean Hills Country Club. We have
quarterly gatherings for both new and established residents to
meet, mingle, talk, and get to know each other. e gatherings
are loosely structured and provide new residents an opportunity
to introduce themselves. Club representatives will be available to
promote their clubs. Our goal is to have you walk away with new
friends and a feeling of community.
ere are many activities available at OHCC and you can
participate as much or as little as you choose. Golf or swim in
the morning, volunteer on a board or
committee in the aernoon, and dance,
play cards, or even join Bingo in the
evenings. OHCC offers about 40 official
clubs and many other special interest groups, and activities galore.
ere is something for everyone.
e Newbies' next gathering is on Dec. 16, from 2 to 5 pm
in Abravanel Hall. A poster board with a flyer is on display in
the Clubhouse. Please RSVP and bring an appetizer or holiday
treats for eight to 10 to share. We will give a gi to the newest
homeowner (defined by when they spent their first night in their
new home) and to the homeowner who moved to OHCC from the
farthest away. Please note, renters are welcome to attend but only
homeowners are eligible for a gi.
