| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2023 | 15 Village Squares e Village Squares welcomed members of e Wranglers to our annual Halloween dance Oct. 25. Our members showed themselves to be very creative in fashioning their costumes. e appetizers and dessert table proved to be a big hit, as did the special Halloween punch. Dancing was spirited! Our students are now learning more mainstream and plus moves, so we are all enjoying evenings of just dancing to the varied music and calls of our caller, Mike Haworth. He workshops anything he sees some have not yet mastered, but keeps things moving. A list of proposed officers for the coming year was mailed to all our current members. e following people were nominated for positions and voted on at our Nov. 15 dance. President, Robert Gross; Vice President, Phyllis Buvel; Treasurer, Ellen Kippel; Co- secretaries, Steve Ward and Valerie ompson. We now look forward to plans for our holiday party. Last year's potluck was very well received, so we are again planning to enjoy the cooking skills of our members as well as donning our holiday apparel and dancing those calories off ! Written by: Valerie ompson Ballroom Dance Our December holiday dance will be on Fri., Dec. 8 in Abravanel Hall. Doors open at 6 pm. We will be serving hearty hors d'oeuvres at 6:15 pm. Dancing to the music provided by the full Music Station band will be from 7 to 9:45 pm. e weekly ballroom dance lessons sponsored by the club will not be held during December and January. When these lessons resume in February, they will be held each week on Wednesdays in Abravanel Hall from 2 to 4 pm. • 2 – 2:45 pm Beginner Class • 2:45 – 3:15 pm Dance Tips and Techniques for both Beginners and Intermediates • 3:15 – 4 pm Intermediate Class e cost for the Beginner or Intermediate class is $10/person per class for both members and nonmembers. Pay at the door (no reservations required, just come). e Dance Tips and Techniques discussion is open at no charge to both Beginner and Intermediate dancers. Carrie Kloss, a champion dancer, and professional instructor provides the dance instruction. She has many years of experience providing dance instruction to all levels of dancers from beginners to dance instructors. e Lesson Review and Open Practice sessions will resume aer the dance lessons resume in February. ese sessions will be held in Abravanel Hall from 2 to 4 pm each week on Mondays. Marvin and Lynn Wheeler, who are very experienced dancers, review Wednesday's lessons and provide help upon request. Aer the review, you can practice your dancing to a variety of ballroom music. e party is FREE, just drop in. ese sessions are open to all OHCC residents and guests of members. e annual membership dues for the Ballroom Dance Club are $10 per person. With this membership, you will receive regular emails describing club activities as well as discounts for dances. e dues for new members who join in December will carry over to 2024.
