48 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2023 | e October tournament featured the three-person game "Cut roat." It's the best game for three players, but it will mess with the minds of senior citizens. e nine contestants were divided into three groups: one table of B players and two tables of A players. e winner at each table was the first player to win two games. e three winners would then compete for the cash prizes. e two A groups were won quickly by Keith Bogost and Charlie Payne. But it was a close-fought and lengthy battle on the B table where Janice Pelcher, D.D. Smith and Fred Ganoe each won a game. e games took so much time that the fourth game to decide the winner was played with only three object balls instead of 15. All three players had several chances to win, but Fred finally cleared the table. at produced a final table of Charlie Payne, Keith Bogost and B player Fred Ganoe. e B handicap allowed Fred to remove two balls from each A player's group, but Charlie won the first game anyway. During the second game, there was a sequence of four fouls in a row, creating a bewildering line of seven balls behind the spot. So, bewildering that it took a long time for these senior players to figure out whose turn it was! Aer a great deal of pondering, Keith eventually won the second game. In the third game, Fred's winning shot was 1/4 inch short, allowing Charlie to win his second game and the match. Fred is le to contemplate what might have been.
