Cheers to 2024 (MMXXIV), the 24th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 5th year of the 2020's decade! I'm sure you are all happy to know this. is is a leap year. Adding an extra day every four years keeps our calendar aligned correctly with the astronomical season. Why? Our Gregorian calendar has 365 days, while the earth orbits the sun every 365.25 days, thus the need for 366 days every four years. December is usually a busy month, and we may need to relax and reflect on what 2024 will bring. Making New Year resolutions can help. By setting goals, we have an opportunity to get things right. We are utilizing a very important concept called self-efficacy which means that by virtue of aspiring to a goal and following through with it, we have a sense of control over what's happening in our lives. Here are five tips: 1. Start with small goals. 2. Make it measurable. 3. Be realistic. 4. Make a plan. 5. Stay positive. One suggestion we offer for a new year resolution — Keep up to date on what's happening in our community. ere are several ways to do this: Read the Herald: Reviewing the upcoming social events helps everyone plan their activities. Our many clubs highlight what they are doing and give information about joining them. Committee reports provide valuable information on everything from what repairs are planned around Four Seasons, tips on checking your home sprinklers, donating books/magazines/puzzles to our library, and architectural guidelines to follow. Email Blasts: ese give us quick updates on current events affecting us. Electronic Board: Located in the Lobby, this is a visual presentation of activities in our community. Attend a Board Meeting: Although it may not sound like the most exciting addition to your agenda, it is a way to be more informed about upcoming projects, gain insight into what decisions are being made, and see for yourself how the community is being managed. It's also a way to express your opinion or concerns to the Board. As the new year begins, we want to thank everyone who helps to keep our community vibrant. ank you to our management staff, beginning with the folks at the front desk to those in the office. eir dedication to helping all of us sometimes goes unnoticed. ank you to Francisco and the Bistro team who provides such an important amenity. ank you to all of our volunteers who continue to serve all of us in so many ways. A special thanks to the decorating committee — WOW! e holiday decorations were incredible, spectacular, and beautiful. Finally, as we look ahead to this year — Yes, we now have wars happening in other countries, discord in our own country, and an emotional election in November. It's easy to become negative and discouraged, but we need to focus on the good in all of us and continue the holiday spirit. "Promise yourself you will continue to be helpful and kind all year, because that is the only way we can keep these feelings alive, these feed good feelings of cheer." Excerpt from a poem written in 2016. We wish you a safe, healthy, and Happy New Year.
