FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2024 39
Happiness is an elusive state for many people, but not for Luis Felipe Morales, our
Four Seasons' custodian. He says, "I get my most happiness giving love and prayers to
others, and growing in my faith."
Felipe is Catholic and spends time every day in prayer and reading the Bible.
Residents often run in to him in The Lodge where he is constantly cleaning the
furniture, floors, and bathrooms. He is in charge of The Lodge and the RCN building.
Fourteen years ago, he left his home in Capago, Columbia where he was a missionary
and had been attending college to be a lawyer. He was raised by his grandmother. Due
to the high cost of education, he had to drop out of college. He came to the United
States, and in 2006 began work at Four Seasons, leaving behind his two sons and a
wife. They speak several times a day by phone, and he sends money back as often as
possible. He saves by living in a room at Sun Lakes with no TV or car.
Despite his somewhat spartan lifestyle, he is extremely happy, as many residents
have noticed by his wonderful smile. His limited English prevents most long
conversations, except in Spanish, but his greeting and smile expresses his concern for
each person he meets.
In the future, he plans to return to his home in Columbia. His wife is unable to
travel for medical reasons but Felipe spends one month each year with her at their
home. His St. Christopher medal and crucifix were a present from his wife. His wife
and family are a big part of his life as are the residents in this community for whom
he also prays.
