| OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2024 | 31 Art Lovers Once again, we Art Lovers enjoyed our Holiday Luncheon at the lovely, seasonally decorated Shadowridge Golf Club. Aer a delicious luncheon, prizes were given and Susan Pick introduced the Art Lovers Clubs' Board of Directors for 2024. ey are: Vice- presidents Nancy Klaapack and Susan Lesser, Secretary Sally Booth, Treasurer Angie Babino, Membership Director Ronnie Duberstein, Publicity Director Rita Montjoy and Director Abbie Goodman. Not present were Selma Leighton and Louise Peterson. Our engaging speaker was Cheryl Ehlers, an award winning, published artist who works in a variety of genres in fine art painting, graphic and textile design and jewelry, using a variety of media, e.g., acrylic, watercolor, 3D sculptures. She is President of the North Coastal Art Gallery in Carlsbad and is a passionate arts advocate for charities, youth and city arts programs. Ms. Ehlers has lived in several countries around the world and speaks several languages. She showed us slides of many of her commercial art projects as well as her personal journey in art. e theme of her inspiring talk was transitioning from the business world to the art world. Cheryl has been commissioned to create graphic art for the City of Carlsbad, San Diego Civic eater, TERI, Cure for Cancer, UNESCO and many others. She also creates hand-painted wearable art. For her, art is about feeling, an opportunity for artists to express themselves. An artist needs to develop confidence in order to keep creating regardless of other people's reactions to their work. Cheryl said, "It's not about being perfect… it's about creativity. Be all you can be." We thoroughly enjoyed Cheryl Ehlers' presentation. Traditionally, our first meeting in January 2024 will be "Members' Treasures." is is always an interesting and enjoyable event where members bring favorite art objects that means a lot to them and shares the story about it. In the past, members have shown everything from a favorite painting, international sculptures to spirit dolls. Please contact Susan Pick at (760) 305- 8907 or erniepick@netzero.net if you would like to share your favorite "treasure." For information about the Art Lovers Club visit https://ohartlovers.wixsite.com/art-lovers. Don't forget to come to Abravanel Hall on Sat., Jan. 13 starting at 10 am for Do Dues Day where all the clubs will be present and you can learn about the clubs and join. Bring your checkbooks and sign up for as many clubs as you like. Happy New Year to all. ~ Written by: Rita Montjoy
