40 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2024 | Garden Club It looks like the OHCC Garden Club will be in full bloom as we enter 2024. Linda Slayton will be continuing as the President, with a very full calendar planned for the year. ank you to Linda and her Board for planning such an exciting year for the Garden Club. Our Jan. 11 speaker will be Shital Parikh who will talk on Bokashi composting, just in time for the new trash requirement to separate kitchen waste. In February, Love is in the Air at our Feb. 14 Valentine's Day meeting. Our speaker is Betty Corvey, San Diego Master Gardner. We are excited she will be talking about one of the most popular Valentine Day gis… Roses. She will share her broad knowledge of roses, including pruning, fertilization, propagation, and the historic meanings of the color of roses. We hope you will join us for this informative and timely topic. Both meetings will be in Abravanel Hall, social time and refreshments at 9:30 am and the meeting begins at 10 am. New this year to our meeting is our question box, if you have a gardening question you would like answered, drop it in the box before the meeting. We will pick one to discuss at the meeting, it will also be answered on the OHCC Garden Club Facebook page. You must be a member to be included in the Facebook group. If you don't make it to Do Dues Day, you can always join Garden Club at the meetings. Woodchucks From all of us at Woodchucks, we hope your Holidaze were wonderful and a we wish a Happy New Year to all! In spite of the inclement weather this year, the generosity of our community surpassed our dreams and the Annual Toy Drive was the best ever! We received over $21,000 in gi cards and checks for the Camp Pendleton YMCA as well as a huge truckload of new toys. anks to all of our Elves and Helpers, including the Sewing Club, Veterans' Club and the OHCC Chorale, and many generous residents. Sadly, the Matinee Club has disbanded but their legacy lives on with a generous donation to the Woodchucks. Pictured are Matinee Club officers, Allison Womack and Al Fried, presenting President Tom Murphy with a check. A "Mini-Radi Shell" concept for the Chorale performances has been designed, engineered and built by our President, Tom Murphy. e difference in sound quality is a marked improvement, and the performers can now hear themselves better. We hope to see you at Do Dues Day Sat., Jan. 13, from 10 am to 2 pm at Abravanel Hall, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Don't forget to bring your checkbook and support the clubs that make Ocean Hills Country Club such a wonderful place to live.
