46 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2024 | With 2023 coming to a close, 2024 will bring many changes to our Walkers and Hikers Club. President Alinda Giansiracusa will be available on Do Dues Day Jan. 13, assisted by several members of the Board of the Club. On that day those people at our table in Abravanel Hall will answer all of your questions concerning changes in our Club, all of your questions about how you can be directly involved in designing Club walks and hikes, and will have a handout listing our walks and hikes through February. Someone at our table can explain how easily you can sign up to be a part of one of the walks and hikes in February, and beyond Feb. 22. e new Board members have met to discuss ways all members can be directly involved in suggesting, or even leading a walk in the future. e Board members: Alinda Giansiracusa — President Herb Livsey — Vice President Lori Smith — Treasurer Gerry Livsey — Secretary Janet Congel — Communications Kannan Dan — Analytics Voting Board members — Marla Reiter, Ron Lyon, Rich Halkyard, and Sharon Gerson (advisory) In mid-December we completed an HONOR WALK to honor one of our terrific members who passed suddenly — Lori Ann Erickson. Walkers & Hikers If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and a way to increase flexibility and balance, then Tai Chi exercise may be just what the doctor ordered. Originally, Tai Chi was developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise. Some describe it as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It is especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. e benefits of Tai Chi may include: decreased stress, improved mood, increased energy, improved flexibility, balance, and agility, and improved muscle strength. OHCC offers a free Tai Chi class each Tuesday and ursday, 9 to 10 am, in the Abravenal Hall. Each class is led by a video presentation that lasts about 45 minutes.
