EPAP Animal Rescue Group meets at 10 am in the Multipurpose Room on the third Monday of the following five months each year: September, November, January, March, and May. We strive to bring interesting and informative guest speakers to our meetings to help you keep your animals safe and healthy. Since we were dark in December, we will now get back on track with some exciting new presentations for 2024. Our presentation for January is Coyote Awareness on Jan. 2 from 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Please join us for this very informative program. I cannot stress enough that there are new scams coming out every single day. Please be so very cautious in giving out any information to anyone with whom you are not familiar. Here are a few extra tips to keep you protected. 7 SMART SECURITY TIPS SLOW DOWN: Scammers often press you for immediate action. Pause and think through whether what you are being told is even plausible. You can always respond later, through the organization's official channel. SHARE LESS OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION: People on Facebook and online neighborhood groups don't need to know your favorite musician, your mother's maiden name, or your birthday. Such info helps crooks "phish" for possible answers to security questions. Online quizzes can also provide personal info to scammers. DELETE OLD ACCOUNTS: The more digital accounts you have, the greater the risk of your personal info being stolen or misused. Close accounts you rarely use and delete the apps. ALLOW AUTOMATIC SOFTWARE UPDATES: These ensure that you always have the latest security patches for smart phones, computer and router operating systems. DOUBLE UP: Multifactor authentication provides an extra layer of security. So, if someone steals your bank or email password and tries to use it from an unauthorized device, the account remains sealed until you respond with a second proof of identity (like a one-time code). STICK WITH SAFE PAYMENT METHODS: Credit cards offer legal protections not found with other methods. With gift cards, crypto currency, and wire transfers, it's almost impossible to get your money back. Apps like Venmo and Zelle offer little recourse. USE ANTIVIRUS PROTECTION: Windows 10 and 11 have Microsoft Defender Antivirus which can shield you from threats like malware. We hold a best hat and best ensemble competition, for which there will be prizes, therefore we encourage you to put on your finest hat and fancy clothes. A glass of champagne or a mimosa is included with your ticket and further glasses or a bottle of champagne can be purchased at a cost of $5 per glass or $18 for a bottle. (No outside alcohol is permitted.) Raffle tickets will be sold at this event; these can be purchased by cash, check or credit card.
