16 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2024 | Our Committee is composed of nine members. We meet the fourth Monday of each month. We advise and make recommendations to the Master Board on matters of safety and security pertaining to the Sun Lakes community. This includes matters of traffic control, such as stop signs, speed limit signs, no parking signs, and speed humps. We also are authorized to levy fines on residents who repeatedly violate Sun Lakes rules and regulations. Our monthly meetings are attended by a representative from the Board and representatives from FirstService Residential and Securitas. We receive reports from Gary Burkel or Bob Walter from the Board and reports from Jason Ewals and Mark Schleiden from First Service Residential. We also receive a monthly report from Michele Walter from the Community Awareness Program. In addition, Mike Romero from Securitas attends our meetings and provides his monthly report. Our minutes are taken by Alyssa Anderson from the compliance department. She also prepares information for any hearings we may have. Hearings are held in closed sessions and occur when a resident receives three or more citations within a 90-day period. The violator is sent a letter from Administration inviting them to our meeting where they have the opportunity to offer an explanation for receiving citations. We listen to the resident and ask questions. After the resident leaves the room, we have a discussion, then we vote on any motions that are made. Penalties are usually fines, but could be suspension of privileges in Sun Lakes for up to 30 days in serious cases. Examples of violations are parking with an expired pass, parking in a handicap zone without a handicap placard or an expired placard, having a dog off leash, doing home improvement projects on Sundays or holidays, and abusive behavior to another resident or administrator. Anybody is welcome and encouraged to attend the open session of our meetings. There have been a number of complaints about vehicles parked in driveways. Please note that in many cases Securitas cannot issue citations if the vehicle has a handicap plate or placard. This is a California State law. On the other hand, if a vehicle does not have a handicap placard, or has an expired pass, it will be cited. Thefts occasionally occur here. The best way to deter theft is to keep your garage doors closed — so please keep your garage doors closed! Safety Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports
