| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2024 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports I was invited to a bunch of Christmas/Holiday parties. I met a lot of new neighbors who would began their conversations with "Oh, you're on the Restaurant and Lounge committee." They'll then tell me how terrible things are and suggest we close our Restaurant and golf courses since they require too much upkeep and revenue. Briefly, here is my response. First, without these amenities our property values would not stay as high as they do. There are lots of other 55+ communities in the area. A lot of people purchased homes in other communities, then sold and moved here because of our amenities. I know the value that our beautiful golf courses bring to SLCC. "Country Club" is in our name and with that comes an expectation of elevated service and value-added facilities and social events. Our Restaurant & Lounge service staff are exceptional. Often we are understaffed for a variety of reasons but those on duty will pick up the slack to accommodate all members. Menu prices were also raised. Anyone who goes to the grocery store knows this is happening at every level. While we don't go out as much now, when we do, we will breakfast here with coffee and a muffin. No matter the meal, we come to our Restaurant first, supporting them because we know that if we don't use it, we may lose it. Chef Chris is doing all he can to be creative and to accommodate member tastes. Thomas and his entire team try to make all of us feel welcome, respected, and valued. Our property values are still reasonable compared to other areas of California. Our HOA fee is relatively low considering all the benefits we enjoy. Once we drive through our gate we are in our own small town. Our Committee is comprised of residents with varied skill sets and business backgrounds. We research, observe, and collaborate. Our focus is striving to make SLCC more enjoyable for all while enhancing revenue. If everyone in Sun Lakes frequented one of our restaurants just once a month, it would improve the bottom line considerably. So when you just don't feel like cooking or driving someplace, you have a choice right here at home to take out or eat in. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Enjoy all that you have here in SLCC. I hope your resolutions include coming more often to your own Restaurant, Lounge, and Sandwedge. Spend more time with neighbors and friends. Look forward to lots of great new opportunities to celebrate with themed dining evenings. If there is a theme or ethnic food preference you'd like to enjoy? Let us know. Chef Chris, Thomas and team will try to make it happen. Our Restaurant and Lounge are here for you. Don't forget that on the last Sunday of each month, Chef Chris prepares an incredibly spectacular brunch. Reservations are necessary; call (951) 769-6654. Cheers to a month filled with laughter, love, good health, blessings, and peace in your heart. ~ Carole Elliott Restaurant & Lounge Advisory Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Master Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the Restaurant, the golf pro, and advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The Lifestyles Advisory Committee meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director to be updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a Restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. Lifestyles Advisory Happy New Year!
