Please keep remembrances to 400 words and include one recent, high-resolution photo. Ann Szegedi, August 11, 1925 - November 5, 2023. Ann Szegedi lived in Hungary, where her life was very difficult during WWII when Communism took over the country. The family went from affluence to poverty which they endured for 10 years. The Revolution broke out in 1956, which gave them a chance to escape to Canada. (Their amazing story, "Riches to Rags," was published by her daughter, Susan Van Loon, and is available on Amazon.) They resettled in America where through it all, Ann remained the rock of the family. Ann lived in Sun Lakes for 19 years before she moved to The Lakes Assisted Living. She was loved by many people here, and anyone who met her liked her immediately. All her life she dreamed of playing bridge, but could not, being too busy as the breadwinner of the family and taking care of two children on her own. Finally, when she retired and moved to Sun Lakes, she was able to join a bridge club. She also joined the Yiddish Club even though she was a Christian. She was in the Paisano Club as well and attended every social event she could. She will be missed by many! Peter Grinceri (Pete) was born in his childhood home at 53 Devonshire St, Providence, Rhode Island on April 30, 1932. He was the oldest of six children born to Antonio and Mary Grinceri. Peter passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2023. He leaves behind his wife Marie of 65 years, two of his four children, Christina and Tony, his sisters Marie (Plotner), Grace, and brother Sam. Pete's first job was peeling a cellar full of onions for 25 cents back in 1940. He then graduated to shining shoes for 10 cents a pair. Pete served in the Navy and was a barber for 72 of his 91 years. His barbershop was the longest running business in the California city of Ontario's history. Because he loved telling and listening to stories, he loved his job and he always had the best stories. Pete was a Sun Lakes resident for over 20 years. He played Bocce, gave haircuts in his garage barbershop, and played pinochle up until one month before his passing. He loved this community and all the many friendships he cultivated here throughout the years. Everyone who knew Pete loved him. He had the best sense of humor and we're all so fortunate to have known him. There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Main Clubhouse Ballroom on Jan. 26 at 1 pm.
