| LIFE IN SOLERA | JANUARY 2024 | 43 GOLF CLUB We opened up December playing the Lone Ranger game. With a dominating performance the foursome of Jaime Maciel - John Dockery – Ernie Salvador – Ed Young smoked everybody today with a fine score of 135 (minus-9). They were the only team to finish with a net score that was under par. Closest to the pin (CP) winners were Manny Magdaleno, Stan Whitesel, Alan Forbes with 2 CPs. We wrapped up the month of November with a two flight Two- Man Scramble at Oak Valley. Jim Parker & Ray Smith took flight one with a net 64. The second flight also netted a 64 allowing Walter Stempien and Kelly Bock to come out on top. CP winners were Ray Smith, Salvador, Bob Umeck, and Forbes. All four were inside 10 feet. Thanksgiving week gave us the Stableford game. For those unfamiliar with this game, here's a brief description: Unlike other games where the aim is to have the lowest score, the object here is to have the highest number of points. The points are awarded based on the number of strokes taken (the fewer the strokes you take, the more points you get). Points were awarded using only a player's net score on each hole. Points awarded were based on the following: Net Double eagle or Hole-in-One: 8 points, Net Eagle: 6 points, Net Birdie: 3 points, Net Par: 2 points, Net Bogey: 1 point, Net Double bogey or higher: 0 points. Additionally a Turkey Shoot (14 pounds) was tossed into the closest to the pin portion of the game on hole # 8. Jim Karalun took 1st with 37 points while Umeck and Bob Marks tied for 2nd with 35. While this was a net game, Umeck's gross 74 should be recognized. Guest Dave Theissen won the turkey while Jesse Marin, Dave Sampson and Dave Duncanson took the other three holes. Our first game (Pinehurst, a form of alternate shot) to report on for this issue started with a Low Net 2 flight event. Young & Duncanson's 69 took flight 1 while Marks and Richard Martin walked away with a 63 for the 2nd flight. CP honors went to Tom Hamerla, Young, Mark Hardy, & Marks. Putt of the day goes to Young's 49' 1"! Congratulations to all the above winners!
