Being a S&W club member gives you a front row seat to all things POOL related, and access to learning about WELLNESS topics pertinent to our age group. Meet Swim & Wellness Club members Susan Sbicca and Dan Pertschuk. Susan and Dan call theirs a "pandemic relationship." They were neighbors in Solana Beach when they met and the rest is history. Susan is a California girl and was a competitive swimmer from the age of eight. An accomplished chef, she owned and operated a restaurant in Del Mar with her late husband. Now she is the chef in her own kitchen and she and Dan grow their own vegetables and focus on healthy nutrition. Dan grew up in Long Island, where he learned to surf. He dreamed of living in California and living The Beach Boy lifestyle. Dan is an internal medicine doctor and he practiced in North County for many years. Later he joined the biotech industry where he ran clinical trials for new cancer drugs. A lifelong runner, Dan had to give that up when he had back surgery a few years ago. Susan convinced him to try swimming and he was hooked. An elderly friend told him, "Eventually, we all end up in the pool!" Dan and Susan moved to OHCC about six months ago, with our beautiful, warm pool as the main attraction. Swim & Wellness was the first club they joined. They also participate in the ukulele group, the Woodchucks, and line dancing. Dan has a daughter nearby who he says is a much better surfer than he ever was. Two pups, Chloe and Ollie, round out the household. ~ Written by Sara Stewart, VP Swim & Wellness Club Susan Sbicca & Dan Pertschuk - new residents and club members See you in the pool! ~ Lori Sherlock, aquatic exercise trainer at west Virginia University Racquet Club
