Happy Heart Month! At our December meeting, we were fortunate to have Beaumont City Manager Elizabeth Gibbs give us a State of the City update. is meeting was well-attended with many questions asked by our residents. In January, we enjoyed a presentation by Mike Mendoza (formerly from Emergency Preparedness) who provided important information on the use of two-way walkie-talkies during an emergency. We were also fortunate to have Andi Henderson from Community Awareness provide an overview of the Four Seasons Community Awareness (formerly Neighborhood Watch) Program. Andi also discussed the role of Captains who are vital to the Program. Remember, "If you see something, say something." We are excited to announce for our next meeting, the Community Awareness Committee will be offering a Sweethearts CPR Class on Feb. 14 in e Lodge Ballroom at 10 am. All residents are encouraged to attend. is class is free with no sign-up required. AED Use – Assessing a Person's Heart Rhythm During a Medical Emergency: An AED (automated external defibrillator) is used to assess a person's heart rhythm during a medical emergency. Aer reading the heart rhythm, the AED will administer an electric shock, if needed, to help restore a normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. If someone has lost consciousness, the Mayo Clinic provides the following steps when using an AED: • Check to see if the person is breathing and feel for a pulse. • If you don't feel a pulse and the person isn't breathing, call 911 if you are alone with the victim, and begin CPR. If someone is nearby, ask them to call for help, and if possible, ask another person to bring the AED to you. • Turn on the AED when it gets to you. e device will provide you with step-by-step instructions, including how to put the electrode pads on the victim's chest. • Once the pads are placed, the AED will automatically measure the victim's heart rhythm and determine if a shock is needed. If a shock is necessary, the AED will direct you to stand back and push a button to deliver the shock. • Aer the shock is delivered, the AED will guide you to continue CPR if needed. TAKE A MOMENT… It is a good idea to know where the closest AED is located. So, take a moment to review the following AED locations in our community: e Lodge - 1518 Four Seasons Circle 1.
