48 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2024 | Our December meeting was another success as we added 14 additional members to our group. All of our meetings in 2024 will be in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom on the second Tuesday of each month from 9 to 11 am. Sun Lakes veterans and their spouses are welcome. Our primary goal, other than sharing camaraderie with fellow veterans, is to provide information and contacts for veterans in need, to various veteran organizations for their assistance including their spouse, as well as our own Sun Laker, Beverly Reneau, (951) 846- 3655, who has volunteered her professional veteran assistance and all of these contacts are no charge. This includes assistance related to the Camp Lejeune issue. We also have a new member Stan Zigler who has offered notary assistance only to veterans until Feb. 23, which is when he will be retiring. Stan's number is (951) 663-0837. We are scheduling future group tours to military installations including museums. At this time we do not require any dues and as a group we will not engage in politics. During our December meeting we received a presentation from Errol Sayin, (818) 203-1999, of the VA Accredited Claims organization who assist veterans to receive "tax free financial benefits that help veterans pay for care in the home or an assisted living facility," and also assist veterans with obtaining a military disability pension and additional benefits. We received a presentation from Jan of the Garden Club regarding PACT, an organization that offers free temporary boarding and care for the pets of military veterans who are assigned a duty away from their home. If you are interested in volunteering to care for a veteran's pet under such circumstances you can contact Jan. Bob Schive provided a very interesting scenario related to his military service while assigned to a naval submarine which included the surveillance of Russian war ships including submarines. Very interesting but scary. And Nyla Hallum, a Sun Laker, has offered to provide professional biographies for our veterans related to their moments and memories of their military service at no cost. Dollie Swanson, an Army veteran, and 27 year veteran of the LAPD, provided the most scrumptious festive pastries, and she indicates that they were calorie free (LOL). Thank you Dollie. She has also arranged for our group to purchase See's candy from a commissary for approximately $10 less than sold at a store. If you are interested please contact Dollie. During our January meeting we enjoyed a presentation from a representative of the Veteran's Administration as well as our member, Tracy Logan. In February, we are arranging a trip to the Palm Springs Air Museum. utilizing free transportation from the Morongo Casino which will also include a free lunch. Thanks to Will Baker. If you require additional information or assistance related to our group or veteran contacts, please contact Will Baker at (951) 946- 0412. See you next month. God bless our military, our first responders, our country, and our Sun Lakes community. Veterans Group
