| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | FEBRUARY 2024 | 17 It's no secret that the evolution of the American neighborhood in the twenty- first century has been rapid and successful. It wasn't until several decades ago that California, Arizona, and Florida offered ideal housing, amenities, and location to seniors; the idea spread like wildfire and is currently a reality throughout the United States. But there is one item we cannot always choose: our neighbors! Many of us as well as our children may have had fond memories of the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood television series. Preschool children as well as older folks could watch Fred Rogers teach children through puppetry and soft-spoken words what makes a good neighbor. Getting along with your neighbors makes everyone's community a happier and safer place to live. We must try to respect our neighbors' preferences, but on the other hand, we can share our talents, skills, and resources when possible to help our neighbors. Our Sunshine teams are already providing assistance to our residents in myriad ways; however, it's important to realize that neighborly, caring touches are easily performed on an individual basis and are just as well appreciated. A caring neighbor is justifiably characterized as a selfless person in this well-known poem by Rudyard Kipling: Neighbors e man who is open of heart to his neighbor, And stops to consider his likes and dislikes, His blood shall be wholesome whatever his labor, His luck shall be with him whatever he strikes. Reminder: Team Sunshine Caregiver Support meets the first Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am at Suzanne and George McGowan's home 7747 Dutra Drive. For information, please call Suzanne at (831) 905-6203. We have been notified of the passing of Mark Whitworth and Dorothy Lampe. Team Sunshine has reached out to their families to offer our condolences and assistance if needed. Members of Team Sunshine assisted with a beautiful celebration of life for Dan Yarbrough at the family home on Dec. 15. If you have a neighbor or friend here in our community, who is experiencing difficult times due to illness or loss, please let Team Sunshine know. We will send them an appropriate card and follow up with a phone call to say we are thinking of them. For those wishing prayers, prayer card requests are provided in the request box in the Multipurpose Room (Game Room). Sunshine contacts: Brenda Beers at (951) 306-6670 or Margie Culton at (951) 491- 4058. Closing quote: "Your neighbor is the man who needs you." Elbert Hubbard Team Sunshine "With each sunrise we are given a chance for a new beginning!" Chaplain Mark Ruybalid, M.A. and Barbara Poirier Caregiver Meeting Wine Club January brought new opportunities and of course, resolutions! The Wine Club is no different! There are lots of new and exciting plans for 2024. In January, we enjoyed an educational evening with Peirano Estates from Lodi, California. On the 14th of this month, we celebrate our loved ones. Feb. 18 is very special too! Our Feb. 22 meeting theme is "Love is Blind." Members will rely on the education they have received to date to guess the presentation varietals. For new members joining in 2024, there will be a special gift (until supplies last). Our annual membership fee is $30/year with a $10 per meeting fee. Guest fees will be $15 each. Do not forget your two wine glasses, perhaps a sample of your favorite varietal to educate your table and if you like, appetizers to share. See you on the 22nd at 6 pm, in The Lodge Ballroom. Happy Valentine's Day! Remember, you can't drink flowers! And don't forget to celebrate National Drink-Wine Day on Feb. 18
