| THE COLONY NEWS | FEBRUARY 2024 | 29 Men's Golf By Greg Griffes e CMGC's 2023 Awards Dinner was held in early December and a very enjoyable evening it was! Our special thanks to our Social Director, Randy Meyer, for making all the dinner arrangements and to the Fleischer family, with Gloria supplying those special table centerpieces and Hank providing us with a great selection of door prizes — quite a number of which were donated by local businesses. Of course, the main point of the evening was to recognize the winners of the various Golf Club tournaments held throughout the year and present their awards. e two major tournaments were the Club Championship and the President's Cup, but prizes were also given for "closest to the pin" and "lowest number of putts." e winners were: Club Championship – Best scores for 54 holes, gross and net: President's Cup – Match play over 54 holes: We also kept track of the best par 3 shots closest to the hole: Hole #2: Greg Griffes 0' 10" Hole #5: Mike Basel 0 '11" Hole #9: Mike Basel 3' 6" Hole #15: Jim Gillespie 0' 2" And the winners for the lowest number of putts for the year: Both Ron Brown and George Herrera had only 26 putts! Congratulations to all the winners. Why not join in the fun and become a member of the CMGC. Contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350 for membership information. e January Colony Couples 2Ball results, wow! Our 9-hole game was played in ideal conditions but with declining sunlight, and it was dark when we finally finished. While there were some near-par gross scores, once the BOGY adjustments were made the stats projected a much different outcome. In fact, this event set a record for the most net score adjustment of minus 12 strokes. We had an off-site award social at Jersey's Pizza, and, as usual, we had a very active social gathering. e next event is scheduled for ursday, Feb. 1, and I anticipate more fun on the links. But here I am, writing on the 4th of January and already I've broken a New Year's resolution. What a happy group we have. Stay safe and healthy until we next get crazy on the links. If you have an interest, give me a call or drop an email to dmurph44@vrizon.net and I will send you a 2024 tournament schedule (first ursday aernoon of the month), rules of the game and include you on our active mailing list. Requirements to join us couldn't be easier: able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly aernoon of fun. Look forward to hearing from you. See ya on the links! JANUARY WINNERS: Colony Couples 2Ball By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457
