Office for your Sun Lakes Restaurant dinner. From Courtney, the publisher: I was getting on the freeway at Highland Springs recently and the person in front of me was going 40 miles per hour when they merged. FORTY. The last time I did that I was 16 and just learning to drive. I got on the freeway for the first time ever behind the wheel and thought I could ease may way into it, acclimate to the scary new situation of California freeways, ease into this new experience. The honking cars swerving out of my way taught me a lesson. You have to get on at freeway speed. Which made me think of life. We don't have the luxury to ease in to most things. When I had my baby, they handed him to me and sent me home. Didn't even wish me luck. Just here's a human you have to keep alive and well-adjusted for 18 years. I was suddenly a full-time mom with zero experience. I quickly got up to speed because there wasn't really an option. When I started my graphic design business 30 years ago, I always said, "I know how to do that!" to whatever the job was. Brochures, signage, billboards, TV ads… I had a lot of first-time-ever-doing- that projects I took, going full speed ahead, navigating as I went. It was that or get run over. Sometimes you have to approach life with your head up, eyes straight, and exuding confidence. Timidity is rarely the right approach to life. Or to on ramps.
