Lynne Davis (above center) gets the paella just right! From the Rules Chair, Bill Swinney: Did you Know? Rule 20.1c Rules Issues in Stroke Play: Sometimes when on the course during our Tuesday events, a rules issue comes up that can't be agreed upon by you or your playing partners. When this occurs, the player with the issue is allowed to play two balls. In other words, the original ball as well as a second ball. The player must, however, announce before playing a stroke that he or she is playing a second ball. They then must announce which ball is designated for each rule interpretation. At the completion of the round (even if the score with both balls is the same) the player must report the facts to the rules chair for the correct ruling and application of the appropriate score. Failure to do so will result in a disqualification. Bill Swinney, in the red shirt (above right), discusses the rules! Golf Cart Club: The Club's next parade will be on the Fourth of July! Details will be provided in future editions of the Herald and through Tracie's blasts and PR regarding the Fourth of July festivities. Flag Angels: The Flag Angels put out flags for Martin King Luther King Day (Jan. 15) throughout the community and will be putting up flags on Sat., Feb. 17, for Presidents' Day (Feb. 19) throughout the community. These two days are two of 11 days on which the Flag Angels work their magic! At times, the placement of flags on artificial turf/ hardscape yards can be problematic. The patriotic cans work well and are extremely popular, but they can be a hassle especially on the routes that need more than a few such cans. Glenn Uhley, one of the Flag Angels, has demonstrated his considerable engineering skills by producing a potential solution (subject to the owners' approval). The picture (inset) show a six- inch long 3/8th inch clear plastic pipe that was inserted in an unobtrusive location on a yard with artificial turf and it almost disappears. Thus, the Flag Angels can easily drop and pick up the flags. This approach also minimizes the potential for damaging the yards and the flags. If you have an interest in such an approach, please let me know and I will coordinate with Glenn. If you see the Flag Angel pin/hat, you should know that a Flag Angel is wearing it (be sure to thank them for their tireless work)! We can always use additional volunteers to serve as backups when a Flag Angel cannot post their flags.
