18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2024 | Spring has sprung bringing us warmer temperatures, greening grass, flowering trees and bushes. It also brings the usual spring growth spurt that poses a special undertaking in maintaining two golf courses. While golfers welcome the improved weather and playing conditions, the maintenance crew is in a constant battle to keep up with the increase in vegetation growth. Proper maintenance of a golf course requires a focus on greens and fairways challenging the crew to keep up with rough cutting and detail work. The new rough mower received this year will hopefully reduce the challenges cutting the rough. This time of year it is nearly impossible to keep up with all the trimming around trees, bushes, drainage areas, culverts, and perimeter walls. During the spring growth spurt residents are reminded to be patient at this time of the year and allow golf course maintenance to prioritize their work within current staffing levels. The GAC would like to remind golfers to follow a few simple golf course rules at Sun Lakes. Please use gates to exit and enter the cart paths. While this may not always be convenient it is important for redirecting traffic patterns to avoid deterioration of the turf. Please do not drive too close to the greens to avoid compaction and damage to chipping areas around the green. If you have a blue flag don't abuse your privilege and stay 20 feet from the green. Please demonstrate good golf etiquette by filling divots, raking sand traps, and repairing ball marks. Keep up with the group in front of you, play ready golf, and eliminate slow play. Please adhere to the dress code on the golf courses, practice greens, and driving range. Following these rules helps make golf a great experience for all golfers and provide the Sun Lakes Country Club appearance that is appreciated by all residents and their guests. Golf Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Master Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the Restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the 6th of each month. The LAC meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director Manager to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for-sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. We've added three new members to our committee: Marti Peck, Donna Henning, and Shirley Anderson. Welcome! If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse lobby. Lifestyles Advisory
