| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2024 | 19 Sun Lakes Committee Reports There are reasons for our rules and every rule has a reason. Our rules were designed to maintain our quality of life, or to set boundaries on the "good ideas" of some of the residents. Some of our residents feel that the architectural and landscape rules are too restrictive, and that they should be able to do whatever they want on their property. Well, that just isn't the way it is, and we all agreed to the rules that govern this community when we moved in. The look and feel of a neighborhood is important to most of us, and is likely one of the factors that led us to move here. The standards for a home's exterior and landscaping in Sun Lakes are contained in the General Statement of Rules and Regulations (and in the CC&Rs). Very soon the new updated version of these rules will be approved by the Board and published for the community. These have been updated to better fit our current conditions, clarify some rules, and continue to make our community a great place to live. Maintaining the exterior of our homes, as well as keeping our yards maintained and in compliance with our rules, is essential to maintaining the livability and value of our homes. The Master Architectural Committee, along with the Planning and Compliance Department staff, work hard to ensure our community remains the place that led us to make Sun Lakes our home. Here are a few tips that will increase your chances of approval for any application for changes to your home or landscaping: • Any application for paint with any colors not in the paint palette has about a zero chance of approval. There are plenty of colors, there is no need to go find your own. • Keep your outdoor lights under 550 lumens. That is plenty of light to see without irritating your neighbors. • Your application for any outdoor cameras needs to show the view the proposed camera will see, as well as the location it will be installed at. Cameras in Sun Lakes cannot be pointed to see anywhere outside of your property. You are not allowed to peep at the neighbors or out on the street with your cameras. • Ensure your landscaping diagrams clearly show the areas that will be hardscape and softscape. Let's all keep the appearance of Sun Lakes something we can all be proud of. ~ Jerry Howell Master Architectural Marketing Advisory THE SURVEYS ARE COMING … LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! A dapper gentleman, grey haired, great looking suit, flower in his lapel, smelling slightly of a good aftershave, walks up to the Sun Lakes Lounge Bar. Seated there is a good-looking lady about his age. He sits alongside her, orders a drink, takes a sip, turns to her, and says, "So tell me, do I come here often?" His one question survey resulted in a sweet romance. Speaking of surveys — before you knock them — let's explore how they can help you get your opinions recognized. As a resident, you have many privileges and benefits, including a VOICE in Sun Lakes matters. Consider your car and the technology that makes it special, safe, comfortable, and luxurious. That was no accident. Corporate marketing teams surveyed owners and potential owners about what they would like to see in the future. Surveyors listened. Made changes and upgrades. Voilá! The result was a continuous stream of improvements culminating in that very sexy sedan or SUV sitting in your garage. When Sun Lakes Country Club emerged 30 years ago, it was awesome. For that generation. But times have changed. Residents expect Sun Lakes to evolve. And for the most part, the community has. But we know we can be even better. Your input will help us do just that. This month of April, your Marketing Advisory Team will be asking for your views on how we're doing, and what you want your community to do better. We'll cover such topics as the overall SL community. The food and beverage services. Golf and related amenities. Clubs, organizations and groups. No aspect of Sun Lakes life will be overlooked. We're seeking positive input, not crushing critiques, of what we've done wrong. We know we can't please all of the people all of the time. How about most of the people most of the time? And we won't be putting a zillion questions into one giant, annoying survey. We've designed mini-surveys that take just a few short minutes. We appreciate your participation, and you'll earn a cool surprise gift for making your voice heard. MARKETING TEAM OPENINGS Seeking two creative, fun-loving, bright, positive individuals who want to make Sun Lakes the best active adult community in America.
