It is a day that marks the liberation of Afro-Americans from bondage and represents our country's ongoing strive towards becoming a color- blind society. By commemorating this day, we honor the struggles and achievements of those who fought for freedom and equality. More details about the event will be revealed in next month's magazine issue, so be sure to stay tuned for further updates. This is an event you won't want to miss, so mark your calendars and join us on June 15 for an evening of celebration, unity, and joy. Bid Whist Plus Social Club: Who are we? The Bid Whist PLUS Social Club meets the first Friday of every month from 2 to 5:30 pm in the Game Room at The Lodge. We are a welcoming, diverse, and friendly social group who enjoy playing a variety of card/board games, great food, and good times. No experience necessary. We will teach any novice, and you'll catch on fast. While the majority of current members primarily play a card game known as Bid Whist, we encourage all our participants to explore their preferences for other table games as they are inclined. You will have fun, enjoy good company and great food (potluck). If you just want to talk, eat, and catch up on the goings on, that is very much ok too. So, what is your pleasure: Bones/Dominoes, Bridge, Spades, Uno, Backgammon, Checkers, Cribbage? Regardless of your experience level, please join us for an afternoon of exciting and spirit lifting camaraderie. For more information, call, or text Donny Brown at (619) 395-7494 or Maurice Bernard Brown at (619) 750-5839. Healthy Living The photo at left was taken a couple of years ago. We relish the memories of past friendships. We see most of these faces each week in our meeting. Healthy Living focuses on health-related printed materials that are shared with the class. As seniors, we need to be mindful of finding the "healthy road to travel." We are a support group and know that social interaction is also part of a healthy lifestyle. We meet every Wednesday at 9 am in the Bistro. If you have any questions about our program, please call Dave and Karen Tuvim at (626) 710-7163. As I'm writing this, it is a beautiful sunny day after a night of rain. Everything outdoors looks fresh and green with the newness of spring. New beginnings are just a natural part of spring. Maybe it is also a good time for new beginnings with our personal health. Adding movement to our daily ritual is a great way to start. Walking and moving is what we do. The class consists of nine different Leslie Sansone "Walk Fit" DVDs. The easy-to-follow routines are set to music with varying tempos. The complete class is four miles, but you can come late or leave early to shorten your routine and work at your own level. A few of the DVDs incorporate resistance bands (always optional). Some class members add light hand weights for added strength training. Stop by and give us a try. New members are always welcome, both men and women! Class Schedule: Mon., Wed., Fri. from 7:45 to 8:45 am in The Lodge Ballroom. Class is FREE! For more information, contact Karen Tuvim at (316) 260-0847. Walk Fit
