| THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2024 | 33 Men's Golf By Greg Griffes The Men's Golf Club is looking for Colony resident golfers of all abilities to join us. Membership benefits are weekly fun events mixed with individual events to improve your game and handicap. We have monthly luncheons, two major championships a year, and a year-end Awards Banquet. We also sponsor the charity Pancake Breakfasts twice a year, with the first one coming up on Saturday, June 8. On Wednesday, April 24, we will begin one of our three-day major tournaments, the Club Championship. This is an individual tournament where everyone competes against each other using their USGA handicaps. Trophies will be awarded for the winners and displayed in the trophy case in the Clubhouse. Membership forms, a schedule of games, and the names of our game winners are available at our website http://colonymensgolf.net. If you are interested in joining the CMGC, please contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350 for more information. The April 2Ball 9-hole tournament has now been recorded for the history books. As you may recall, this event has been plagued by weather cancellations since its inception in July 2022. The forecast was for sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Upper 50s, low 60s was forecasted for the day. That, however, did not happen, and we just narrowly dodged the bullet of another downpour from Mother Nature. What we did experience was cooler temperatures and an occasional mist in the air, resulting in bone-chilling cool conditions. Thank goodness this event is played to have some fun on the links — and we did! The social event that followed on campus and as the afternoon team results and awards were posted also allowed for the chill in the body to warm up quickly. If you are interested, give me a call or drop me an email at dmurph44@verizon.net and I will send you a 2024 tournament schedule (first Thursday afternoon of the month), rules of the game and include you in our active mailing list. Our next contest is Thursday, May 9. Requirements for this event are to be able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly afternoon of fun. I look forward to hearing from you. See ya on the links! APRIL'S WINNERS Colony Couples 2Ball By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 Mike Basel on the tee at #1 hitting one of his bombers down the fairway. Pat Anderson with his 10" Closest to the Pin win on #15. is could be the 2024 year-end record. It's not too long now until the first Pancake Breakfast of the year on Saturday, June 8 from 8 to 10:30 am. Come join us and enjoy great pancakes, sausage and muffins, along with orange juice, coffee and tea. What a great time to socialize with your friends and neighbors — and please remember that funding of our scholarships for Murrieta school athletes comes from income raised through the breakfast. The ticket price is $7 per person for adults, and they will go on sale Wednesday, May 1, in the Clubhouse by golf club members. Tickets will also be available at the Activities Office, or they may be purchased at the door the morning of the breakfast. Tickets for children aged 12 and under are $3 and must be purchased at the door only. Men's Golf Club Pancake Breakfast
