At our March meeting, we had a presentation from two officers from the Beaumont Police Department who provided us with important scam prevention tips. e presenters also opened up the well-attended meeting for a question and answer session. In April, Doug Tani from Waste Management provided us with clarification on how to correctly dispose of general waste, recyclables, and green waste. In May, we have the Beaumont Fire Marshal with wildfire- prevention guidelines for the hot and dry summer months. KEEPING YOUR IDENTITY SAFE HCN Bank, from their CyberSmart Series, has provided the following information on protecting and keeping your identity safe. Understanding Identity e Identity the involves stealing someone's personal information to commit fraud, like opening accounts or making purchases in the victim's name. It can have a long-term impact on your financial health. Here's What You Need to Know Identity thieves may use various tactics to steal your information, including email and phone scams, data breaches, skimming devices, and even intercepting or stealing mail. Recommendations for Keeping Your Identity Safe Include: • Secure Your Personal Information: Be cautious about where and how you share your personal information, especially online and with people you don't know. • Protect Your Accounts: Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication. Use a different password each time. Passwords can be recorded in a simple document on your phone or on your computer, making a search easy. Just don't name the document "Passwords." Two-factor authentication can mean something as simple as a password and a PIN number or a fingerprint and a password. • Monitor Your Accounts Regularly: Check your bank and credit card statements frequently for any unauthorized activity. • Be Vigilant with Your Mail: Secure your mail and be prompt in retrieving it. Consider electronic statements and bills to reduce the risk. • Shred Sensitive Documents: Shred bank statements, bills, or any document containing personal information before disposing of these items. • Report Suspicious Activity Immediately: If you suspect that your identity has been compromised, contact your bank and credit report agencies right away. Protecting yourself from identity the requires vigilance and an understanding of the risks and methods used by thieves. By following these recommendations, you can significantly lower your chances of becoming a victim. Remember, if you see something, say something. We would like to thank our Block Captains and Community Awareness Committee members for all they do to help keep our community safe. ~ Frank Hilberg, hilbergfrank@gmail.com Community Awareness 26 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2024 With all the rain during the past few months, we have had a lot of disappointed dogs who missed their running-free play times. While walking each morning, Reyna is so happy to see some of her Corral buddies. The rains also caused a lot of damage to the decomposed granite surface of the Corral. You can use it, but please be careful not to trip on the ruts caused by erosion. Hopefully, by the time of this reading, we have been able to get the surface repaired. Membership for your dog is $40 for the first year and $30 per year after that. Applications are available in The Lodge Lobby. The Corral is self-funding, meaning that as members, we pay for repairs and maintenance. The greatest reason, in my opinion, for using the Corral is to let your dog run free and play with other dogs. They love it so much that as soon as they see the Corral from the car window, they start whining and barking with excitement. As soon as they go into the play area, they run to greet their dog friends and just take off running. The other great part of membership is meeting other pet parents and forming new friendships. The Corral is o p e n for your use from daybreak to sundown daily. Regular play times at the Corral are Saturday and Sunday at 8 am and Wednesday at 4 pm. You can arrange other play times with other members at your convenience. Due to unforeseen accidents and other issues, we have lost three members of the Canine Corral Committee. We meet on the first Thursday of the month at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. Our meetings usually last only one hour. We have one event in November to raise additional funds. Please consider joining our committee; you don't have to have a dog to join. Maybe you have always had dogs, but your pet has passed. You have valuable knowledge to contribute about maintaining the Corral and keeping the dogs in our community safe and healthy. Once a dog lover, always a dog lover. We need your help. ~ Martha Franck, Chairman, marthafranck@icloud.com, (714) 345-8588 Canine Corral
