The Veterans Club originally met on the last Thursday of the
month. Unfortunately, some months have five Thursdays which
caused confusion. A decision was made to always have the meeting
on the fourth Thursday at 10 am hours with two exceptions. Going
forth, that means the 2024 meetings will be on May 23, June 20, July
25, Aug. 22, Sept. 26, and Oct. 24. We don't meet the last two months
of 2024. In November, Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and we will
have a ceremony at the Veterans Park. In December, the fourth
Thursday is the day after Christmas, and we will not meet.
At our March meeting we discussed the cost, maintenance, and
accessibility of placing the tiles on a cement slab versus a wooden
platform at the f lagpole. Veterans who want a tile with their
name and branch of service need to attend our meetings to better
understand the issues of cost and maintenance of the memorial. ~

Our March event was lunch at the Yard House restaurant and a
play at Victoria Gardens. We met at the restaurant with our usual
enthusiasm and excitement. It was a good way to start our day.
Friendly service, good food, and as always, fun. The Play was Beauty
& the Beast at the Lewis Playhouse. The actors wore period clothing
from that era. The makeup on the Beast was extremely convincing.
The dancing included ballet and acrobatics. The story is set in a
small village in France. The actors portray characters with various
accents, including French and British. All were well executed. The
music and the singing was beautiful. If you really understood the
message in the story combined with the songs, you may leave feeling
emotional but happy. What a wonderful production. Bravo! Bravo!
