June can have "June Gloom" on the coast and the beginning of higher temperatures in Four Seasons. June also has several significant days, including Juneteenth, Flag Day, Father's Day, and D-Day. D-Day (June 6) recognizes the sacrifices of those who, 80 years ago in 1944, landed in Normandy, France, to liberate Europe from the Nazis. More than 2 million soldiers, sailors, pilots, medics, and others were involved in the overall operation. Of the 160,000 Allied troops that landed on June 6, 73,000 were from the United States. General Dwight D. Eisenhower's order, issued on June 6, states, in part: "You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you… I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less that full Victory! Good luck! and let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking." Less than a year later, Germany surrendered. At the April annual membership meeting, four candidates were elected to the Board: Barbara Balser, Fred Kydd, Mary Reyna, and Rick Adkins. We welcome Rick as the newest Board member. We thank Tony Criscenti for his 16 years of service to our community. Board officers were then elected. They are: Jim Crase, President; Barbra Balser, Vice President; Cliff Post, Treasurer; and Rosy Snider, Secretary. In this month's Herald, there is a summary of the "Board 101" Presentation by members of your Board. As Board members, we are often asked to be more transparent. We take our responsibility seriously, and do our best to abide by the definition of transparent, ie, "to share our thoughts and opinions honestly and respectfully." We will continue to make decisions on the basis of what is best for all our residents and to listen to your concerns and suggestions. This message is written a month before it appears in the Herald. As this author was deciding how to end this month's message, he attended "A Piano Concert" on May 4. Having paid the $10 admission fee, he took his seat in our Ballroom. The pianists who performed were the following: Sharalee Boyer, Lonnie Cooks, David Minasian, and Dave Tuvim. What a wonderful evening! It was enjoyable to see the effect on the audience and the joy of having a good time. We don't have to drive far to see a great show when the performers live here! There is nothing like the beauty of live music. Music is the language that everyone understands. It connects all of us and has a positive and uplifting effect. This is but one example of who we are and the community we have become. We live in a special place with many talented people. All in all, probably the best $10 ever spent! "Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours." Elton John Enjoy the summer months and everything Four Seasons has to offer. Message from the Board of Directors 2 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2024 | Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board of Directors, Barbra Balser, Cliff Post, Roxy Snider, Fred Kydd, Mary Reyna, and Rick Adkins Jim Crase President
