The Cinema Club screenings are on the second Sunday of each month. We screen films you won't find at the big cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films, and other little gems that don't get wide release. This month's screening on Sunday, June 9 at 6 pm, is Breakfast on Pluto (Ireland 2005, 2 hr. 8 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "A young trans woman, Patrick "Kitten" Braden, comes of age in the 1970s. She leaves her Irish town, in part to look for her mother and in part because her transgender nature is beyond the town's understanding. She's taken in by a rock band, falls for the lead singer, has brushes with the IRA, is arrested by the London police, works in a peep show, and poses as a survey researcher for the phone company. Throughout, her nationality and her nature put her at great risk. In her search for her mother, she makes surprising discoveries of friendship and family. But, will she survive?" All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. The Classic Film Group presents Cavalcade, the 1935 Academy Award winner for best picture. We will screen on June 25 and July 2 at 6 pm in The Lodge Theater. This is the first film produced by FOX to win the Best Picture Oscar, along with Best Director and Best Art Director. Cavalcade is a portrayal of the triumphs and tragedies of two English families, the upper-crust Marryots and the working-class Bridgeses (Una O'Connor and Herbert Mundin) from New Year's Eve 1899 until 1933 as seen through the eyes of well-to-do Londoners Jane (Diana Wynyard) and Robert (Clive Brook) Marryot. Amongst events touching their family are the Boer War, the death of Queen Victoria, the sinking of the Titanic, and the Great War. We will also screen e ree Little Pigs for which Walt Disney nabbed his 1st Academy Award for Best Short Subject (cartoon). The Wednesday Western Matinee presents Cat Ballou on June 12 at 2 pm in The Lodge Theater. It's great funny western starring Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin along with Michael Callan, Dwayne Hickman, Stubby Kaye, and Nat King Cole. Lee Marvin got his first and only Academy Award for Best Actor. Marvin said his costar horse, Smokey, deserved half of the Oscar. Smokey won a Craven Award in 1966 for his excellent animal acting. Cat Ballou was Nat King Cole's last movie. ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@gmail.com
