50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2024 TOPS At our May meeting, club members participated in "Italian Pictionary" during the evening. The drawings were all things Italian and some of the answers to the pictures drawn were funny, challenging, and usually did not look like what the drawer was trying to portray. Members were divided into two groups and played against each other. Some pictures and answers were so funny they deserve mention, and those names will be posted in next month's article. Our next meeting is Thursday, June 13 at 6 pm at The Courts. The Steering Committee is working on the events for that night at this time. If anyone has an idea for an event for the club's meeting, please contact Barbara Dipoma, Jerry Monahan or Anita Vasquez. We are looking for some suggestions from the group, and looking forward to some of your ideas. The Italian American Club is open to all residents of Four Seasons. You do not have to be Italian to join our group or come to our meetings. We would like you to come visit with us. Please stay safe and healthy. ~ Barbara Dipoma, (805) 377-2616, and Jerry Monahan, (951) 212-8898 Italian American Club WAIT! Why are those two men rushing around in the Ballroom carrying large tablespoons full of frozen peas? Charles Caldera and Harry Henderson were taking part in a team relay attempting to scoop up frozen peas and deposit them in a bowl about 40 feet away. The bowls were later weighed on a food scale to determine the winner. The fun game was part of a day when the topic was starchy vegetables. Most people think that if the vegetable is green it has fewer calories. However, peas, corn, beans, and lentils are all counted as starch on most healthy food plans. Last month, two of our members attended the Southern California Area Recognition Day at the Riverside Convention Center. The theme was "Bee the Heart of Tops." It was a three-day convention attended by 300 to 400 people. Some dressed in black and yellow bee suits complete with antennae. The program consisted of workshops, raffled baskets, a fashion show, talks by inspirational speakers and lots of cheering and singing. Chapters were recognized for longevity and yearly weight loss. A PowerPoint presentation displayed motivational sayings throughout the day such as: Bee the best U can Bee; Bee-lieve in yourself; Success doesn't just come and find you because you have to go out and get it; Bee Silly; Bee Kind; Bee Honest; Bee Thankful; Bee Positive; and Bee Nice. You may find that a group like TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) can help you as well. We meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am in the Ballroom.
