36 | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2024 | DID YOU MISS IT? "Yacht Rock is IN and we all live in a Karaoke world!" The Mixed Nuts (Gary St. Germaine and Steve Clark) proved it as they performed smooth vocals from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. These mellow tunes were originally known as the West Coast sound or adult-oriented rock. Now called "Yacht Rock," the rules are simple — keep the music soft, smooth, catchy, and easy to sing along to. And that's why we knew all the words to hits including Piano Man, Margaritaville, Brandy, Sweet Caroline, and Take it Easy. "Dancing in the Moonlight" was the order of the evening as we line-danced, two-stepped, waltzed, and boogied the night away. "Don't Worry, Baby" — hopefully they'll be back with more Yacht Rock soon! Mixed Nuts By Valorie Hillerich Beatlemania with the Colony Chorus By Valorie Hillerich April's Colony Chorus event, Beatlemania, was a huge success! Chorus members and the live band took the audience on a "Magical Mystery Tour" down "Penny Lane" and "Abbey Road" and gave everyone "Something" to remember. Alan Johnson recognized how much work went into the production and loved hearing and seeing all the home-grown talent. Michael Fisher agreed and said, "The energy in the room due to The Colony Chorus was super. What talent we have within our community. I am proud to be a resident!" Jan Miller and Jeri Huestis, Chorus members, said they loved presenting this show. You can see the smiles of all the performers — what's not to love about the Beatles? Peg Heilgeist's words say it all: "…it was indeed special. Thanks to all who reminded us of the brilliance of the Beatles' music and how it is so ingrained into our culture … GOOD JOB!"
