| THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2024 | 7
Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 in the United States. It
commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on
June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
The Flag Resolution stated: "That the flag of the 13 United States
be 13 stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be 13 stars,
white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."
All Colony military veterans and their spouse/guest are invited
to enjoy a FREE Continental Breakfast featuring a Veterans
Pinning Ceremony and Veterans Certificates of Recognition. This
event provides an opportunity for local organizations to honor
military veterans in our community. All veterans will receive a
Veterans Pin and Certificate of Recognition inscribed with their
name.
The Veterans Pinning Ceremony is designed to recognize and
honor veterans, their spouses / surviving family members for
their service, endured hardships, and willingness to risk their lives
to maintain our freedom. The Veterans Pin symbolizes meaning,
purpose, comfort and closure for veterans and their loved ones.
"Our Flag continues to wave across our free nation because of our
Armed Forces. When you see this pin, know that your service to
our nation is deeply appreciated and we thank you."
Colony veterans, their spouse / guest or surviving family
members are encouraged to register for the upcoming event at
the Activities Office. Please note: Registration is not mandatory.
Walk-ins are also encouraged to come and enjoy this honoring
event. Walk-ins will receive their veterans pin and inscribed
certificate after the event.
