30 | OHCC LIVING | JULY 2024 | Newbies Newbies is the official welcoming group for Ocean Hills Country Club residents (homeowners and renters). We have quarterly gatherings where new and established residents can meet, mingle, and get to know each other. The gatherings are loosely structured and provide new residents an opportunity to introduce themselves. Our goal is to have you walk away with new friends and a feeling of community. Club membership is the fastest and best way for new residents to make friends and become involved in their new community. Accordingly, Club representatives are always invited to attend Newbies gatherings and promote their clubs to new residents. We encourage all Newbies to become involved in the community and explore opportunities to be of service to others. This month we are spotlighting new residents Jim and Leilani Resney, who recently moved to 4733 Majorca Way from Bend, Oregon. Jim was born in Chicago and moved to southern California as a teenager. He earned an MBA from USC and had a career in home building and residential development. Leilani's career in health care was inspired by the 1974 TV show Emergency, and she went on to become the sixth female paramedic in the State of California and the first female paramedic in a fire department in central Florida. She later moved to Oregon and finished her career as a registered nurse and safety specialist in Occupational Health. Jim and Leilani met at a dance class in Bend 12 years ago and have been married since 2016. They have five grown children and six grandchildren, ages six through 11; four of the children and four grandchildren live in Southern California. That, plus our temperate climate, were big motivators for their move to Ocean Hills Country Club. They both enjoy a variety of activities including dancing, golf, pickleball, gardening, billiards and more; and Leilani has already won at Bingo more than once! Welcome, Jim and Leilani! A cake and ice cream social was held on June 22 in Palm Court. We are very grateful to Barbara DuDeck, OHCC Resident Realtor, Your Sunny San Diego Connection, who sponsored the refreshments. Newbies is not a Club and does not charge dues, and we are entirely dependent on donations to keep our group going. Some details about the gathering will be shared in the next OHCC Living article, along with another new resident profile.
