56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2024 The weather report is in and is predicting this month will be hot, hot, hot! So why not get "cool in the pool" by joining the members and guests of your Four Seasons Beaumont Water Volleyball Club every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am to 12 pm at The Courts. We also play indoors on Saturdays from 1 to 3 pm at The Summit. Our summer season is a great time to get out of the house and enjoy the sunshine! So if you're looking for a club where you can get a little low impact exercise while having lots of fun and laughs, come check us out. And bring your guests along. We have recently introduced a new set of rules that will make it even easier for beginners. All ages, heights, and skill levels are welcome to join in the fun! For more information, contact Craig Korotko at korotko@msn.com. ~ Craig Korotko Water Volleyball Club The "Dog Days of Summer" are here and members of your Four Seasons Beaumont Lawn Chair Volleyball Club invite you to come out and share some sunshine and volleyball fun! Have you ever wondered why the days from early July through mid-September are called Dog Days? According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the phrase is a reference to Sirius, the Dog Star. During the Dog Days, the sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth. During our Dog Days season, we play on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from about 5:30 pm until sunset on The Lodge lawn area between the pickleball and paddle tennis courts (weather permitting). Lawn chair volleyball is played using a large, softball (almost like a beach ball) and a fairly low net. All you need to play the sport is a sturdy lawn chair and a desire to have fun with your friends and neighbors at Four Seasons Beaumont. If you're looking for a club where you can partake in a bit of friendly competition with very little physical exertion, come check us out. And bring your guests along. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Water Games and Splash Time When the temperatures rise, there's nothing better than cooling off with some water play. Set up a kiddie pool in your backyard and let your dog splash around to their heart's content. You can also visit dog-friendly beaches or lakes for a refreshing swim. Remember to prioritize safety, supervise your dog near water, and provide a life jacket if needed. Frozen Treats and Popsicles Beat the summer heat with delicious frozen treats for your pup. Create homemade frozen dog treats using ingredients like plain yogurt, fruits, or dog-safe peanut butter. You can also freeze a mixture of dog-safe broth or diluted fruit juice in ice cube trays to make refreshing popsicles. These treats not only provide relief from the heat but also offer mental stimulation as your dog works to lick and enjoy their tasty reward. Interactive Toys and Puzzle Games Engage your dog's mind and keep them entertained with interactive toys and puzzle games. Fill treat-dispensing toys or Kongs or other stuffable enrichment toys with frozen goodies or other yummy bits your dog loves and let your dog figure out how to retrieve the treats. Introduce puzzle games that require problem-solving skills, such as hiding treats in puzzle toys or creating a DIY snuff le mat for them to forage through. These activities challenge their minds and provide mental enrichment during the summer months. Outdoor Training Sessions Take advantage of the pleasant weather and engage in outdoor training sessions with your dog. Teach them new tricks, work on obedience commands, or practice agility exercises in your backyard or a nearby park. Training sessions not only stimulate your dog mentally but also strengthen the bond between you and reinforce their obedience skills. Just make sure it's not too hot, bring water and go for early walks before it gets too hot. Nature Walks and Hiking Adventures Explore nature together by going on leisurely walks or hiking adventures. Find dog-friendly trails in your area and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the outdoors. Allow your dog to sniff and explore and take breaks to appreciate the beauty of nature. Remember to bring water, snacks, and waste bags for a safe and enjoyable experience. Remember it's snake season so watch for snakes on the trails. ~ Vivian Walker, vivr@sbcglobal.net
