52 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2024 This is the perspective of the artist of the month, Linda Rau: I started my artistic endeavors with graphite pencils and some pen and ink. I had never used acrylic paint before going to Rob's Paint Party. I wanted to see and feel how brushes could apply the paint and create a beautiful piece of artwork. is painting is from a picture taken by a friend in Alaska. e polar bears just begged to be painted. It took me a long time to complete, to where I was happy with it. is happened! Some paintings come easy, but some, not so much. With Rob's guidance and the great support from other students, it felt wonderful to realize my painting was finally done. All new members start off by drawing three images. e first is an elephant, the second is a forest setting, and the third is a building. All three teach us about shapes, shading, perspective, and composition. roughout our journey, Rob is there to help us improve our works of art. Aer these three pencil drawings, we are free to choose any medium and image. Come and join us. Classes are held on Mondays from 10 am to 12 noon and/or Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. If you have any questions, call Rob at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman Mixed Media Arts Our June meeting discussion was cell phone photography. We talked about the functions built into our cell phones for night photography, moving subjects, long exposure, and how to get creative. Our outing was to Joshua Tree National Park to photograph the Milky Way. We meet on the first Thursday of each month, 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the RCN Main Room. Each meeting includes a main topic, review of photos, and general discussion about photography. All skill levels of photographers are welcome. If you use a cell phone, join us. Many photo and editing techniques can be incorporated into cell phone photography.
