This month our selection for the Famous LGBT Americans series is Amy Schneider, a transgender woman famous for her successful performance on the show, Jeopardy!. Schneider won 40 consecutive games on Jeopardy! from November 2021 through January 2022 and the November 2022 Tournament of Champions. She has the second longest winning streak in Jeopardy! history, behind only Ken Jennings who holds the record of 74 games. She participated in the 2023 Masters of Champions and came in at fifth place and in the 2024 Masters of Champions where she finished fourth. In total, Schneider played 70 Jeopardy! games and won $1,859,800. She was awarded a Special Recognition honor for her successful performance in Jeopardy! by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, an organization promoting accurate representation of LGBT people in the media. For Schneider, her appearance on Jeopardy! provided an opportunity for her to do something positive for the trans community. She described this experience in her autobiography, In the Form of a Question: e Joys and Rewards of a Curious Life: "e biggest prize of all that I received from my Jeopardy! run is the ability to say that I, too, have helped (the) cause. … I knew that I would be taking on that burden of representation, and I will always and forever be proud to say that I've done my little part, helped ease the path for future generations of trans people to live free, open, and happy lives. at feeling is worth far more to me than any monetary prize, any media attention, any free gis. It's something I will cherish forever." Schneider was born in 1979 in Dayton, Ohio. Interestingly, when she was in the eighth grade, she was voted, "(The student) most likely to appear on Jeopardy!," by her classmates. She transitioned in 2017 and is married to Genevieve Davis.
