32 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2024 | Colony Chorus By Ken Luekens Yes, it is hot out, but for The Colony Chorus, it's time to think about Christmas and our Christmas concert. Our theme for this coming season is Kind of a Celtic Christmas. (That is pronounced Celtic with a hard C at the beginning, not a soft C like the name of the current NBA champs from Boston.) In support of this theme, the Chorus needs to recruit some help. We need someone to play bagpipes, as well as a fiddle player (which can be confused with a violinist, although sometimes they overlap). If you know of someone in The Colony or in the Murrieta area who have either of these skills, please let us know. You can call me at 925-596-1949, or the Chorus president, Connie O'Brien at 619- 322-0144. In the meantime, you are invited to learn more about the Chorus when we hold a "Meet and Greet" on Sunday, Aug.11, from 3 to 5 pm in the Clubhouse Lounge. Come and meet us and our creative director, Lorilee Bajema, and enjoy finger food and beverages. It will be a time to mingle, make new friends and talk about music with those who enjoy making it. Have you considered joining the Chorus? Our practice for the Christmas concert will begin on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 9 to 11:30 am in the Auditorium and continue weekly on Thursdays at the same time. No audition necessary. Come and join us! Anyone who likes to sing is welcome. The dates for the upcoming Christmas concerts are Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 pm, and Sunday, Dec 8., at 3 pm. Save the dates now, but meanwhile, enjoy your summer, and sing whenever you get a chance! By the time you read this, our Summer League will have concluded and we will be in full-go mode, getting our Winter League set up. Our standings as of July 3 were as follows: Team 7 at 11-5 (Ralph Sanzari, John Haller, Denise Godknect) and tied with them for 1st place was The Colony Triad at 11-5 (Ken Kurator, Ted Noun, Carol Hitchcock). Three teams tied for 2nd place at 9-7 King with Queens (Olivia Perez, Hank Fleischer, Gloria Fleischer), Pin Poppers at 9-7 (Sheila Spradling, Susie Pawlowski, Ali Holland) and Gutter Busters II at 9-7 (Candy Pineiro, Linda Pineiro, Angie Tiplitsky). We had our awards dinner at the Sizzler Restaurant and had a great time! We are asking for anyone who would like to bowl in our Winter League to please contact us as soon as possible, even now would be okay. We will be setting up teams. Remember, for us in a typical bowling league, we distribute approximately $8,000 in prize money. We will have more details ready before the start of our league on the first Thursday after Labor Day. Bowling Hank Fleischer, 714, 272, 3684
