| THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2024 | 33 The Colony Cousins Genealogy Club welcomes you to our Tuesday, Aug.13, meeting at 1 pm in the Annex. If you have roadblocks, dead ends, rabbit holes, or just want to learn more, you are welcome to attend. We will have members available to give individual advice and consult on your genealogy research. Our members will have online resources such as Ancestry. com and MyHeritage to use for free. We are asking members to bring information about what country, area or state they are asking for help in and to bring your computer. It is also helpful if you have pedigree charts or family group sheets of your research. To get a jumpstart and save time, it would be best if you could send as much information as you have in advance to John Murphy at jemurphy77@yahoo. com or call him at 951-698-1412 to discuss your research. Our meeting will start promptly at 1 pm, so please plan to sign in at 12:45. For questions, please contact Lennie Martin at (503) 269-9987 or lenniem07@yahoo.com. Our new member drive continues, and we invite you to join us. Dues for 2024 are $25 for an individual and $30 for a family. Contact Greg Griffes at mosesscrolls@gmail.com for a membership form. If you would like copies of past presentations, please contact John Murphy at jemurphy77@yahoo.com or 951-698-1412. Genealogy By Greg Griffes, 951-383-9988 Did you know that the Wine Club started back in November 2018? The idea was hatched by our own Dick Castle, and serving as the Original Wine Club President was Dick Farland. Fast forward to today, and we have Bruce Scott as the current President. And what a treat it was for our own Sharon Evans to run into Past President Dick Farland and his wife, Kay, at a recent event. I thought it would be fun to have Sharon pose with current President, Bruce Scott, and his wife, Lulu. Always fun to see how the club has evolved. We welcomed Cougar Winery to our Wine Club event in June. Our volunteer pourers served seven different wines, and dinner was a tasty Italian delight. Cougar Winery also offered up their delicious olive oil for tasting and for sale. A good time was had by all. July's event was Wine Bingo and Tastings with Monte De Oro Winery. Members enjoyed some rousing games of bingo, tasted the award-winning wines from Monte De Oro Winery, and noshed on hearty appetizers. There was even a raff le with bottles of wine given out to the winning ticket-holders. Everyone had a ball! We are looking forward to our August bus trip to Maurice Car'rie Winery, one of the first wineries established in Temecula. The vineyard contains some of the valley's oldest vines, originally planted in 1968. Maurice Car'rie will provide a lunch of grilled garlic Parmesan chicken, wild rice, Alfredo pasta, and salad at their onsite restaurant. Our bus will leave The Colony Clubhouse parking lot at 10:30 am and will return approximately 2 pm. Tickets were sold in the Atrium on July 22 and 29, at a price of $60 for members. If you missed ticket sales, give Sharon Evans a call at 951-445-3861 to check for ticket availability. "Wine is the answer, but I can't remember the question"… well, who can? But if your question is, "How do I join the Wine Club?" please give Sharon Evans a call at 951-445-3861. As always, if you are interested in purchasing tickets to any event, please attend one of the ticket sales dates. If you cannot make it to the dates indicated, you can have another club member purchase a ticket for you. Cheers! Wine Club By Valorie Hillerich Original Wine Club President Dick Farland and wife Kay Cougar Winery's assistant wine maker Jake Renter, General Manager Miriam Landberg, and her mom Current Wine Club President Bruce Scott and wife Lulu
