The lazy days of summer are upon us and some days it's too hot to move. Let's try a little exercise that we can do in the cool of our living room with a nice, cold drink beside us. Get a piece of blank paper and a pencil or marker. Put the pencil in your non-dominant hand, close your eyes and just doodle on the paper. Now, take a colored pencil, marker, crayon, paint, and fill in around and over your doodle. How do you feel? Let it flow, whatever it is. Keep going until you are satisfied with what you have done, be a child, there is no right or wrong. Voile! You are an artist! The Art League has been dark for June and July, but we look forward to getting back to the pleasures of art at our Aug. 11 meeting from 2 to 4 pm in the South Clubhouse. Come meet us, enjoy the artistic talents of Sun Lakes own Carol Cole, and have some refreshments (it's air conditioned!) Carol will be sharing her expertise in collage and abstracts. You are invited to participate in her classes on the three consecutive Sundays, Aug. 18 and 25, and Sept. 1 from 12 noon to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Arts & Crafts Room. For further information or reservations, please contact Linda Grabler at (951) 758-3142. $30 members, $35 non-members. This is a class for all skill levels, you don't want to miss it! Coming in October, the very talented watercolor artist, Suni Godbold will present. Kudos and many thanks to Judy Grant and her team on the Art League's entry in the Fourth of July parade (picture inset). It was a delightful presentation of patriotism and birthday wishes for the U.S.A. No classes will be offered in September as we prepare for our annual event — ART WALK. The entire community is invited to meet the artists, see the work of some very talented people, and, perhaps, even purchase a piece for your home. There will be the opportunity to win a piece of original art with our (free) raffle drawing. So please stop by, get a ticket, and enjoy some great art created by your friends and neighbors. Mark the date: Sept. 21 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. We look forward to seeing some old and new faces in August! In the meantime, stay cool! ~ Pattie Rogers | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | AUGUST 2024 | 29 Hope everyone enjoyed a Happy Fourth. Some of the ladies showed the Veterans quilts they finished to give our Veterans this fall. Lots of the fabric we have shared came from Liz Kennedy's son's donation to our group. Come join us — we're a fun group! We meet the first, third, and fifth Mondays of the month from 1 to 5 pm. For info, call Jan Hamm at (951) 212-6799 or Vivian Myrdahl at (626) 221-0872. Sun Lakes Quilters Sun Lakes Mudslingers Mudslingers ceramics group meets each Wednesday 3 to 6 pm and Friday 9 am to 12 pm.
