It is now August and the summer nights have arrived. July was launched with our Fourth of July Parade, and we thank all our participants for being a part of a very patriotic, enthusiastic, and well- done procession. There were 45 golf carts all decorated to maneuver the streets on a beautiful and warm Saturday. It was a sight to see when neighbors cheered neighbors, dogs galore, bubbles, donuts, and families with children waving their flags as the procession drove by. Thank you to all who supported us. Special thanks to be given to Tony Duong of CPS and his officers for allowing everyone to stay safe along the route. August starts the reservation process for 2025, and this will be introduced to the clubs at their next meeting on the Aug. 5. Paperwork will be distributed and questions answered, as it pertains to the process. The inputting of this information is labor intensive and the entire process lasts until the end of December. The Lanai has created an added venue to the scheduling but not a new process, because for years it was a designated space to reserve for an event. The difference is the Lanai now offers a giant 100-inch TV which can be used for presentations, movies, cable channels, streaming, etc. The TV will be made available when not reserved. This will include a tethered remote control, as to remain with the unit. The Recreation Department has had to make changes to what can be offered in the space, including a "drop-in" accommodation to include table and chairs for those that wish to just hang out. The Recreation Department can see this will evolve over time, but for now, we will accommodate requests to the best of our ability. It is the thinking that we can host an event such as: a national soccer event or a Super Bowl game, and invite a crowd. These events can be pre-determined and put on the calendar. It is a work in progress as we adjust to the uniqueness of the structure and come up with new ideas for programming. Please ask the staff for help as needed. Tri- City Medical Center is coming for lunch — just kidding! They are providing a Lunch with Lecture this month on Tues., Aug. 13, so please come by and pick up a ticket from the Front Desk. Two more lectures are planned this year, and we appreciate the partnership we have shared together over the years. Flyer is located within this publication. At month's end, Aug. 31 at 4 pm, we are planning our Concert, Dancing, and Grand Opening of the Lanai- on the Green. A dance floor will be created on the Golf Course in the area of the 1st tee. Bring lawn chairs, food, drinks, and friends. A stage will be ordered and constructed for our featured band Fortunate Son from Los Angeles. They have been the featured band at Lawrence Welk in Escondido, and we are excited to have them share their ultimate tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival. The day before the Concert, residents do come down at 3 pm or after to set up their tables and chairs, staking out their own piece of property for themselves and a group of their friends. Last year, the stage was set and all ready to go, but it started to pour rain. Let's hope that does not happen again this year. We still had fun, anyway, and that is because OHCC is the "Shangri-La of Fun." Enjoy the hot summer nights, come for a night swim to cool off, and the happiest of vacations to all our members! A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawnmower is broken." - James Dent 18 | OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2024 | Recreation News By Christy Bessey
