| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2024 | 17 There has been a significant rise in requests to check on the welfare of residents in the last several months. Securitas has been diligently responding to calls from concerned family members, neighbors, or guests worried about loved ones who may not be able to care for themselves. There was one incident where the resident passed away, despite life-saving efforts by Securitas team members. Also, there have been instances where Adult Protective Services needed to step in to provide essential aid when deemed necessary. Critical-emergency knowledge and training are what Securitas offers to Sun Lakes to use when necessary for our residents. In the last month, most of the Sun Lakes facilities and Administration Building were re-keyed as a security precaution. Securitas patrol officers continue regular foot and vehicle patrols in the maintenance yard and other facilities, reinforcing their presence and deterring potential security breaches. The RV lot is still monitored onsite from 10 pm to 6 am by security. Extensive renovations are scheduled for the RV lot in coming months. The Master Board has approved the installation of state-of-the-art cameras along the eastern wall. This upgrade will significantly enhance surveillance capabilities, providing comprehensive coverage of the area and bolstering overall security measures. In addition, a major enhancement of the northern wall is completed, increasing its height by three feet. Incident reports from Securitas recently indicated that general tasks were the majority of responses from patrol. These calls typically include routine checks and minor assistance provided to residents and guests. Parking violations were the second most frequent reports, with 23 incidents, indicating ongoing issues with unauthorized parking and non-adherence to community parking guidelines. Suspicious activity was reported 11 times, with no serious issues identified. Water leaks were reported 13 times, suggesting a need for improved infrastructure maintenance. The Safety Advisory Committee is continually responding to requests and making recommendations to the Master Board for safety improvements here in Sun Lakes. This includes review for speed humps, pavement painting, speed limit and stop signs. Please remember to drive safely and obey speed limit and stop signs. Keep your garage doors closed. If you see something, say something! ~ Michael Volz, vmv1950@ aol.com Safety Advisory The golf courses at Sun Lakes are amenities for all homeowners with more than half of our homes bordering the Championship or Executive Golf Course. Many of our residents are not golfers yet they willingly decide to buy a home in our community. A big reason for this is the open spaces and beauty of the landscaping that comes with a well-manicured golf course. Compared to similar communities in the area, Sun Lakes is unique in providing this golf course setting at a monthly HOA assessment that makes it a true hidden gem at a great value. The GAC takes their role in golf course maintenance seriously in order to preserve the value of these assets for the benefit of all homeowners. Our golf courses comprise over 300 acres with 13 lakes, more than seven miles of perimeter wall, hundreds of mature trees, and two bridges that traverse the ravine running through the Executive Course. The golf maintenance staff and budget to maintain all this are well within the standards for the industry. It has been shown that a home in a golf community can significantly drop in value if the maintenance of the golf course is neglected. Some residents may not fully understand why a golf course should ever be renovated, but almost everyone knows the value of upgrading the kitchen or bathroom in a house. Nothing lasts forever and that includes sand traps, tee boxes, lake liners, and irrigation systems. When doing golf course repair/replacement work, the goal is to enhance the finished appearance, reduce maintenance, while also improving playability for golfers. Any renovation work follows an established architectural plan to ensure the beauty of the golf courses for all residents. Maintenance of the golf courses is something that should be of interest to all homeowners. That is why any resident homeowner, golfer or non-golfer, is eligible to apply and become a member of the GAC. Recommendations by the GAC for new members are made in October and submitted to the Master Board for approval. The appointment to the GAC is for two years and there is an opening for the 2025-2026 term. If you are interested in being a member, please fill out a Volunteer Interest Form available in the Main Clubhouse Lobby, Administration, or on the Sun Lakes website. ~ Mike Callahan, callahm56@yahoo.com Golf Advisory
