| SUN CITY CORE COURIER | SEPTEMBER 2024 | 11 WOODSHOP CLASSES STARTING SOON: The Woodshop has classes to sign up for that will begin in the very near future. A few class examples are Beginning Woodworking Class, Sign Making Class, Scroll Saw Class, Lathe Wood Turning Class, and a Cutting Board Class. Stop by the Woodshop to sign up for a class. Each of Thea's classes are perfect for a beginner to woodworking. You will be called when a class will start. The projects you will make and complete in each class are beautiful and something for you to be so proud of. The cost of each class will include all wood and supplies needed for the projects. You must be a member of the Woodshop to sign up for any of the classes. Membership for the woodshop is $20 per calendar year. The holidays are right around the corner. What a great time to hand make a gift for a loved one. Stop by the Woodshop, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm, to join and sign up for a class. The Woodshop recently had two Lathe Woodturning Classes where students learned the ins and outs of how to use a lathe to turn a piece of wood of different shapes and sizes into an amazing project. The instructor of the classes is Nick Smith who has been a member of the woodshop for many years. Nick is also a member of the Inland Woodturner Club. He is very knowledgeable on wood turning and is a great teacher. (L-R) Rick Vasquez, Kathie Bludworth, Nick Smith (instructor), and Lynn Gaughen all made bowls from a solid piece of wood. Woodshop members (L-R) Monte Huffine, Mike Brauer, Jim Elkins, and Nick Smith (instructor) who all made a variety of projects. THE WOODSHOP RAFFLE IS BACK! The monthly raffle at the woodshop was put on hold while we waited for a new publisher to take over the Core Courier. The September raffle item is a gorgeous jewelry box that was made and donated by woodshop member, David Kim. It is made of walnut wood and has a beautiful grain within the wood. The jewelry box has four drawers and measures 9 1/2 wide, 10" high, and 5" deep. Other than jewelry, there are other uses for this box like office supplies or your special treasures. What a great gift for someone. Christmas is right around the corner! The winning raffle ticket will be drawn on Mon., Sept. 30 at 12:30 pm. Stop by the Woodshop, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm to look and admire the workmanship involved in making this box and purchase that winning raffle ticket. Tickets are priced at two tickets for $5 or five tickets for $10. You do not need to be a member of the Woodshop to purchase tickets. The raffle is open to everyone. You do not need to be present to win. The winner will be called. If the person holding the winning raffle ticket does not respond after numerous phone calls over a one week period, then another ticket will be drawn and that new winner will be called. Remember it only takes one ticket to win. The Woodshop thanks you for your support. Good luck to everyone! Woodshop Group
