September brings us school days gone by, more traffic on city streets, reminding us that there are only 30 days in September, and the beginning of the last quarter of a fiscal year. e new Board members begin their commission to serve, new officers for clubs are desired, and the fall brings a variety of harvest themes to the activity platform. Scarecrows, autumn leaves, pumpkins, and apples are part of every party planner's pallet décor. Tri-City Medical is coming again this month on Tues., Sept. 10 at 11:30 am. Please pick up lunch tickets at the front desk, if interested in participating for the lunch portion. A ticket is not required to attend the lecture which begins about 12 noon. A flyer is in this publication with the details including date and time. e lectures are very informative and well-attended. We appreciate their partnership over the years. e Fall Festival is on the books for Sat., Oct. 19, beginning at 9 am. We are combining the efforts of our craers, our bakers, and our treasure collectors into one big event. Sign-ups began in August, come and reserve a table at the Front Desk at no charge. A hot dog lunch will be sponsored by the Garden Club for only $6, so reasonable and a welcomed addition for those in attendance. e reservation process has begun with all clubs submitting their 2025 requests by Sept. 5, to the Recreation Department. e 10 requests for each club are for reserving the larger venues: Abravanel Hall, Lanai, Mykonos, and the Palm Court. Several clubs have grown in size, and they need the larger space to host their events. Business meeting reservations can be made on a separate form, if applicable. ere is a priority list honoring certain groups ahead of others. HOA business, performances with entertainers, and productions all come before clubs. e next group aer clubs will be interest groups, classes, and card players. Private room rentals can be made in late December for 2025. Any questions regarding 2025 reservations can be directed to the Event Coordinator's office. As this writing, we have been interviewing candidates for the Event Coordinator's position and we have an applicant in the process for hire. If all goes well, we will give an introduction in next month's publication. We have hired a weekend Facilities staff member to work alongside Alberto Leon, as this has been long in coming and good news for our weekend activities. He, too, will be introduced next month. In a matter of a week, the requested equipment approved by the Master Board, arrived to the Clubhouse. e new kitchen freezer, the 240 chairs, and the 20 round banquet tables will be a welcomed addition for events on the Lanai. Bingo will receive a new laptop to use for the Saturday Bingo Nights. A new kiln and a new saw have been purchased for the Cra Studio. New radios have been installed on the exercise equipment in the Cardio Room. e AV rack for the Lanai Audio equipment is being installed. It has been a busy month and the results of the Annual Election for new Board members have been announced. We have had several requests for TV viewing on the Lanai, including the upcoming football season games, the national election results, and perhaps the Super Bowl next year. One thing about Recreation programming, it is always evolving with new ideas, new residents, and new trends. e weather has also been wonderful this summer. e warmer nights and longer days create times for friendships, families, and fun. Southern California weather cannot be beat, so many of our residents moved here for this reason only. Stay cool, hydrated, and live with purpose. Life is worth living when you live for others. See you all in the Clubhouse! 18 | OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2024 | Recreation News By Christy Bessey
