| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2024 | 33 e Photo Club has some ambitious plans for the balance of 2024. First of all, the "Reflections" display in the Clubhouse hallway has been there for a while and it's time for some new images. e Photo Club board appointed a committee of volunteers to scope out the project and undertake it. e members are Sherri McDaniel, Chuck Fasilis, and (chair) Marcie Geisser, with gentle guidance from Mike ornton. • We are holding a photo contest to replace the Reflections display in the Clubhouse. • e contest is open to members of the Photo Club. If you'd like to join… • e theme of the contest is "So Cal Living." • It will be judged by two representatives of e North County Photographic Society and one from e Oceanside Museum of Art. • Photos should have been taken between 1/1/2023 and 12/31/2024. • Photos should be taken in a 4:3 or 3:4 format at the best possible resolution. • More details to come. We expect the photos to be judged in January 2025, and to be displayed in the hallway as soon aerwards as is practical. No one from the Photo Club will be involved in the judging. In September, we hope to go together to the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens, 1270 Vale Terrace Dr, Vista, CA 92084. More info: https://altavistabotanicalgardens. org/. We hope to be there on our regular meeting day, urs., Sept. 19. It's open from 8 am to 4:30 pm but we thought we could all try to be there at 9:30 am. ere is a $5 admission fee, and we may or may not have to get a badge to wear since we are photographers. ere are picnic tables there and it might be fun for us to bring something to have for lunch and sit and chat for a while. In October, we'll meet to review our results and to provide more details about the contest for the hallway photo display. Photo Club membership is $10/year. If you join in the last quarter of 2024, we waive your dues for 2025. ~ Jim McDonough, jamespmcdonough@gmail. com, (760) 593-9994 Photography Photo courtesy of Kathy ornton Woodchucks Contrary to what you may have heard or read; Woodchucks members are not just making toys for the Camp Pendleton YMCA. Many members enjoy working on their own creations as well. Member Scott Griffith is building an heirloom-quality Barrister's bookcase of oak. Instead of hinged doors, he upped the ante and is building his with doors that flip up and slide out of sight. It's a complicated building that requires much of the shop's extensive machinery. Another member, Alan Belisle, is building a Kitchissippi chair (similar to an Adirondack chair but more comfortable). He built it out of high-quality Redwood, and it is so comfortable that he is now building another for his wife, Marilu. Hopefully you will be inspired by a wood project to join us in making some sawdust! If you're not currently a member, you can get the necessary forms at the Clubhouse desk, or find them on the OHCC website (Home Page/Social Clubs/Woodchucks/Join Us) See you at the Shop!
