Straight Men: e 2024 Straight Pool Tournament was held
on July 25, contested by four "A" players and four "B" players.
Games were to 20 points, with the "B" players receiving a 10-point
handicap.
e first-round winners were David Singer (the only "B" player
who won), David Key, Stan Katz, and Peter Fiori. In the semi-
finals, Stan defeated David Key, and Peter defeated David Singer.
e two Davids played the consolation match for 3rd place, with
David Singer winning that contest.
e final match featured excellent shots by both Stan and Peter,
but Peters's longer runs gave him the victory.
David Singer got $10 for his 3rd place finish. Stan received
$25 for 2nd place, and Peter took home $50 for winning the
tournament. Here they are, looking remarkably like Cheshire cats:
Ladies Behind the Eight-Ball: Ladies do win some of our open
tournaments, but they don't really like to compete with all those
obnoxious men. (Yes, we all know what THEY are like.) So, on
July 18th, they got their own Ladies Eight-Ball Tournament!
e first round of the tournament determined the seedings for
the second round, and that produced four shooters for the semi-
finals: Deneen Leroy, Kathy ornton, Janice Pelcher, and Sue
Bixler.
In the semifinals, Janice overcame Deneen while Sue squeaked
by Kathy. Janice beat Sue to win a tightly contested final, while
Kathy beat Deneen to win 3rd place in the consolation match.
Many of the ladies used the short bridges and had 'pet' names
for them. However, we could not get those names past the censors,
so you will have to inquire in person. Written by Charlie Payne
