We welcome Sheila Benedict presenting Migration Trails Are Paper Trails: Let's Pick rough the Crumbs. It is not unusual to hear "I have no family in California" OR "the family never went west of the Mississippi." However, those statements have been proven inaccurate in far more than one case. For that reason and because of the staggering number of men, women, and families that did migrate west, very important papers and very important collateral lines could and would be overlooked. California, in particular, is a diverse state and there is a vast array of resources available from many other areas – U.S., Canada, Ireland, UK, other parts of Europe, Asia, and much more. Needless to say, if a person is located in California or other states along the migration trail, a lot of family papers, photographs, ephemera, and other genealogically valuable items went with them. Sheila Benedict has a BA, courses in history, archive management, and paralegal studies; attended IGHR, NGS, Gen-Fed, SLIG, archivist at a California Historic Mission 2001-2017, researches yearly or more in Ireland, APG Virtual Chapter past-president, APG Writer's SIG past president, 2021-2023, currently a Genealogical Speakers Guild board member, The Irish Ancestral Research Association (TIARA) past-corresponding secretary, wrote the NGS "Research in the States" California book (2015), many articles, frequent lecturer, genealogical researcher since 1992, and taught beginning/intermediate genealogy and oral history techniques at a local college.
