| THE COLONY NEWS | SEPTEMBER 2024 | 33 Men's Golf By Greg Griffes With the summer heat, the Men's Club starts early and we are playing lots of Scrambles and Shambles to beat the heat. We are now offering a $1 putt do-over to pay for occasional pizza parties at the 19th Hole on the patio. Did you know that one of our own residents, Candy Pineiro, carved the tee box markers? You can see the number 7 wood carving in the pictures. Candy is very good with a chisel! We have bumper stickers now! Look for these stickers (pictured at left) on golf carts everywhere to identify Men's Club members and ask them how you can become a member! The Men's Club is looking for Colony resident golfers of all abilities to join us. Membership benefits are weekly fun events mixed with individual events to improve your game and handicap. We have monthly luncheons, two major championships a year, a year-end Awards Banquet and we sponsor the charity Pancake Breakfasts twice a year. If you are interested in joining our group, there are membership forms, a schedule of games, and our game winners at our website http://colonymensgolf.net. The August Colony Couples 2Ball results are in, and we were pleased that interest in the tournament had not waned since our last one in June. (The July tournament was canceled as it fell on July 4.) The brave folks of seven teams and 39 players headed out in warm 91° afternoon heat, and I might add humid, to have some fun in a 9-hole tournament. And we were not disappointed, though we were happy to finish the last two holes with a gentle cooling breeze. I saw many smiling faces at our post tournament social gathering at Jersey's Pizza. The next contest is set for Thursday, Sept. 5. Requirements for this event are to be able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required.
