4 | LIFE IN SOLERA | SEPTEMBER 2024 | "Don't worry biographies & memoirs are now with history in the new non-fiction section by the back door and the comfortable reading chairs." We are trying to rearrange the books so that they are easier to find. This has been a slow process and required a lot of moving books around SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE. HERE are some things we have been doing the last couple of months. 1. Making the shelves facing the main walkway more inviting so that more residents come in and browse. DONE! One side is the new home for our popular Cozy Mysteries collection which used to be in our Clubhouse living room. The other side will be a changing collection which now features Anthologies. During the holiday season we will feature our Christmas and holiday books. 2. Organize the Large Print Books section alphabetically with more signs. The Fiction Large Print books are now shelved by Author A to Z. DONE! 3. Put all the NON-FICTION BOOKS together in one section, if possible. This will require moving History & Biography to Shelf 7 near the back door along with other NON-FICTION books on cooking, transportation, art, travel, ETC. It will likely expand to some side shelves. 4. Move the Hardbound A-Z FICTION to shelf D across from the A-Z paperback FICTION on shelf E. DONE! 5. The remaining shelves up front will be the remaining FICTION BOOKS by popular genres like Westerns, Science Fiction & Fantasy or the authors in high demand. STILL A LOT OF WORK TO GET DONE, The A to Z Fiction are kept current (five years) individual author collections are kept longer depending on the publishing rate of the author and our available shelf space. We welcome your suggestions and hope to have most of the changes done by October. The focus of the process is still to help make our new residents first experiences in Solera positive and welcoming, and provide essential resources to help acquaint new residents with Solera. With the new process, we're providing all new residents a professionally printed, single sheet bi-fold pamphlet called the "New Resident Quick Start Guide." The guide includes the following types of information. • A brief introduction and a "Quick Reference" section with Solera Clubhouse and security contact info and hours. • "Local Numbers" section for non-emergency police and fire department, and utilities. • "Stay Connected" section encouraging website, email, and text registration as well as use of the Life in Solera magazine which provides lots of information about Solera groups/clubs, activities, and events. • "Website Highlights section listing what can be found on the website, and provides the website address and a QR code. • "Good to Know" section including information about clubs, events, and activities; design guidelines; community rules; and community security. A downloadable version of the guide is also posted on our website (be sure to print it double sided, then fold it in half). With the new process, the timing of communicating with new residents has also been enhanced so that all residents get their first communications from the committee within a couple of weeks of our being notified they've moved here. For the new residents who wish to also have a visit from a welcome committee member, we still schedule the visit based on the resident's preferences, and tailor the discussion based on their interests and questions. We are now in the process of planning our next new resident social gathering. Stay tuned for more information about that. If you enjoy meeting new people and would like to acquaint them with all that Solera has to offer, we are looking for new members. Please submit a Volunteer Interest Form at the office or contact me at (951) 499-7790 or mnbdewey@yahoo.com. Thank you!
