As summer begins to wind down, the Sunshine Club hopes you are enjoying/ surviving the summer heat while staying cool and hydrated. It sure has been a warm one! The Sunshine Club's mission is to bring a smile and a little sunshine into the lives of residents that are ill, by sending cards to cheer them up. In addition, if a resident has an overnight hospital stay or death in the immediate family, we call or visit, and deliver flowers or a fruit basket. We also do various service projects throughout the year to support the community. We accomplish this by your donations of recyclable aluminum cans and plastic bottles such as water, juice, or tea drinks that are clearly imprinted with the words CA-CRV or CA CASH REFUND. Please remove the caps and keep in mind that plastic containers such as milk, 100 percent juices, Clorox, peanuts, and mouthwash are not recyclable and should be put in your appropriate Waste Management cans. We do not accept any type of glass due to the dangers of breakage. In addition, please securely tie your bags! If you are interested in bringing sunshine into our community, we would love to have you join our service organization. We will resume our normal meetings on Sept. 18 from 1 to 2 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room and hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please contact Diane Coffman at (949) 295-1097. | LIFE IN SOLERA | SEPTEMBER 2024 | 31 SUNSHINE CLUB Sunshine Helpers Needed! HIGH NOTES FROM KARAOKE When I was a young person back in the late 50s, I was introduced to records by way of 78 RPMs and artists like Joni James, Johnny Ray, and Tony Bennett. I was given my first 45 RPM record on my 13th birthday. e record was Wonderful Dream by e Majors. When I got a little older, I bought albums. Some of my favorites were e Best Of e Everly Brothers, Days Of Future Past by e Moody Blues, Meet e Beatles and Chuck Berry's 20 Greatest Hits. I remember e Lear Jet Car Player and eventually the Muntz 8-track player. I eventually bought a cassette player boombox and then a car cassette player. As the years progressed, I moved on to the reel-to-reel recorder and finally digital music by way of my laptop, thumb drives and of course internet streaming through YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, and many other music services. Whatever way you listen to your music, you can sing your favorite songs at our Goodtimes Karaoke with Rosie Ingalls, Barb Miller & D.J. Blast on Fri., Sept. 20 in e Oakmont Clubhouse starting at 5:30 pm with a potluck for those who contribute followed by karaoke singing at 6 pm. Make a point to join us for fun, food, dancing, and singing. We will continue to keep a fresh disinfected microphone ready for you. If you have any questions about our karaoke dates and schedules you can call Barbara Miller at (951) 845-7265.
