26 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2024 Aki here, we have breaking news that my mom just told me about. Get set, get ready, as our annual "Yappy Hour" is scheduled for Nov. 7 from 4 to 6 pm in The Lodge Game Room. We are gearing up for our major membership drive by hosting this "Yappy Hour" for all of our dog parents (my furry friends and I aren't invited). Current Canine Corral members will be available to answer any questions and talk about the fun times our fur babies have with their friends and also learn how to become a Corral member. There will be wine and refreshments available and as a fundraiser we will raff le off baskets that will include gifts for your fur baby and adult baskets, too. Fundraising tickets will be sold at the event. When giving your dog lots of exercise, it's a great healthy habit to make sure you bring lots of water with you, either to the Corral or while you are walking. Portable water bottles and collapsible bowls are available at pet stores and Amazon to help with the hydration. Aki says that according to Pets WebMD, dogs need an ounce of water for each pound of body weight. She also wants pet parents to be aware of the signs of dehydration caused by a lack of water within the body, including loss of appetite, dry mouth, diarrhea, excessive panting, decreased skin elasticity, sunken eyes, and/or lethargy. One way to test your pet to see if dehydrated is to simply pinch the skin between your pet's shoulders. If the skin does not pop back into place, then your pet may be dehydrated. It is also a good idea to take your dog out during the coolest part of the day, and remember, different breeds have different heat limits. A nice cool treat for your fur baby is puppy popsicles. Puppy popsicles can be made out of any pet friendly foods, like fruit, peanut butter, vegetables, or just plain water. One tip is to freeze chicken broth with water in ice cube trays to make them more desirable. As the weather continues to heat up, our canine members are gathering at 7 am for play time. Our fur babies look forward to mingling and yapping with their friends. Aki says she would love to see more friends at the Canine Corral as she wants to meet new friends. The first year membership fee is $40 and then $30 per year thereafter. You must meet shot requirements and a few other things. Pick up an application form at The Lodge front desk; it's so easy. We are always looking for members on our Canine Corral Steering Committee which meets on the first Thursday of every month at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. Each change is marked by a specific point known as an equinox or a solstice. Autumnal equinox is one of these specific points that happen in the month of September. Sept. 22 or 23 marks the onset of autumn, or fall as it's most commonly known. What happens in the fall you may ask? During this time, temperatures gradually drop, days become shorter, and, most noticeably, some leaves change their color to red, orange, yellow, and brown. All this is due to three chemical changes in the leaves: chlorophyll, xanthophyll, and carotene. Trees shed their leaves. All this we see along Four Seasons Circle and around our community.
