58 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2024 Happily, the pickleball court resurfacing project was completed an entire week earlier than anticipated! Our eight refinished courts are beautiful to behold, smoother and safer to play on, and very much appreciated. While the courts were first open for play Monday July 8, the Four Season Pickleball Club held a grand re-opening that Friday evening. There was an official ribbon-cutting (photo above left) by our Tournament Director Kelly Vucinic shown wielding the scissors (center), surrounded by several steering committee members (L-R): David Martin, Carol Ward, Nancy Hessin, Nancy Barnaby, Irma Peterson, and Gayle Wardenski. This was followed by a quick four-game tournament with new partners chosen randomly by computer for each of the four games. Fun prizes included spicy dill pickle Goldfish crackers for David Burchartz, who came in third place, Klaussen pickle gummies and a tabletop pickleball game for Gary Condurachi and Ken Edwards, respectively, both of whom lost no games and thus tied for first place (see photo at right). We were all happy to see so many of our newer players participating in the celebration! So, grab your court shoes and come on out. You can check out club play daily between 8 to 10 am and talk with club members about how best to join in. New player classes continue on Saturday mornings with Nancy Hessin, who does a fabulous job introducing new-to-pickleball folks to this sport that we love so much. ~ Gayle Wardenski/gmew@ hotmail.com Pickleball July 31 was the last day of the month but the first day to celebrate the arrival of our two new ping pong tables. Thanks mainly to the initial work of Bob Rubinstein, we now have two excellent Donic tables on which to play. These aren't the kind of tables you played on in your backyard as a kid. These Donic Waldner Classic 25 ITTF approved competition tables have a 25mm top for a perfect bounce of the ball and can be used for tournament play anywhere in the world. We are deeply indebted to the Facilities and Finance Committees as well as the Board for recognizing our need for these tables and approving their purchase. Pictured below (L-R) around the table are Sandi Butler Roberts, Paco Perez, Jeannine Baker, Mitch Harmon, and Perry White, the first players to enjoy playing on these tables. Come up to The Courts anytime and find out what it's like to play on an Olympic-quality table. For more information, contact Niles Sundstrom at (818) 826-1380. ~ Niles Sundstrom Table Tennis
